YMMV / Kobato.

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The series' main opening, "Magic Number". Maaya Sakamoto never disappoints.
  • Fridge Brilliance: At first, you might think that Fay joking about Ioyorgi being Kurogane's Alternate Universe counterpart is just a simple Actor Allusion, until you realize that Ioryogi is a stuffed dog; in Tsubasa -RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE-, Fay is always constantly referring to Kurogane as a dog!
    • He even looks a bit like Kurogane in his true form (only shown in the manga).
    • Gets even better when you realize Ginsei is voiced by Fay's VA and has an eyepatch, much like post Tokyo Fay
  • Ho Yay: Ginsei towards Ioryogi.
    • Genko even lampshades it in Chapter 21-B of the manga!
Genko: You sure are obsessed with Iorogi.
Ginsei: NO! That is because the only person who can win against Ioryogi is me! So before that happens, I won't allow him to admit defeat to anyone else.
Genko: Wow~ I'm blushing from hearing this.
      Ginsei: Who's blushing!?
  • Memetic Mutation: Why can't real girls dress like Kobato?Explanation
  • Nightmare Fuel: Ushagi-san is a cute, white, perpetually smiling rabbit who is a messenger of God. Oh, and he giggles maniacally.
  • Tear Jerker: The end of episode 23 'Sayonara'
    • Episode 24, too. "You've had me waiting all these years. You're late again." Cue Kobato hugging Fujimoto tearfully while Ashita Kuru Hi plays in the background. But that's more of a case of YMMV.
  • Values Dissonance: At the end of the anime, both Fujimoto and Kobato push Sayaka to go back to Okiura. This seems heartwarming on the surface, but on later reflection it seems very strange that they would want her to go back to someone who was openly emotionally abusive (even if he did it to indirectly protect her from his own father, the very person responsible for her father's debt in the first place).
