YMMV / Kirby Battle Royale

Go To

  • Can't Un-Hear It: Due to King Dedede and Meta Knight acting extremely similar personality-wise to their Kirby: Right Back at Ya! versions, plenty of long-time Kirby fans read their dialogue with the dub voices, respectively Ted Lewis' exaggerated southern voice for Dedede and Eric Stuart's Antonio Banderas-inspired voice for Meta Knight.
  • Game-Breaker: Three abilities in particular stand out for being broken. Number one is Beetle, which is available right from the get-go and can send everyone else running for the hills with Rocket Horn which can annihilate anything in its path and also zip around really fast and when the attack ends, opponents STILL aren't in the clear as it ends with a dive attack that creates a damaging area-of-effect shockwave. Number two is Hammer, which can deliver a One-Hit KO with Hammer Flip and also become a whirlwind of pain with Hammer Swing. Number 3 is Tornado, which becomes a black hole with its below average charge time.
  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: For many players, the gameplay on its own is So Okay, It's Average and the online multiplayer is nothing to write home about. For a lot of fans, the big selling point of the game ends up being its surprisingly involved story mode. The adventure has Kirby team up with Bandana Waddle Dee to try and win a big cake and unlike most Kirby games, practically everyone but Kirby gets to talk with very vivid dialogue. And even then, Kirby still gets to have engaging interactions with others. Not only that but, as typical of the series, the story starts off simple before getting much more dramatic and epic by the end. Overall, the story not only lets the game stand out in the series for fans but also ends up fueling fans hope for the main series to incorporate more involved story telling as well.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Interest in the game picked up considerably when Sleep was added to the game as a proper ability, for the first time in the entire franchise.
  • Memetic Badass: The Sleep ability was voted into the game by a poll.
  • Narm: Meta Knight's voice in this game has been criticized for sounding very different to his other performances in Smash Bros. or in other mainline games, sounding closer to a goat than a mysterious knight.
  • That One Level: The Ore Express Gold League Battle "Tangle with Three Whips" has you take on the usual team of three Kirbys. But as the name would imply, those aren't just your normal random ability with swords, no, the three Kirbys all have Whip. Taking them on with any ability besides Whip is sure to seal your doom. For starters, they can and will constantly grab you with their whips, causing you to drop your ore pile and will render you unable to react as you will be attached to the whip. This can result in situations where one of the Kirbys have the lead because of said whip, and you will have to constantly dodge the whips while carrying your ores if you want to reach first place.
  • Unexpected Character: In the case of Kirby, Unexpected Ability. Of the available abilities were voted to be put into the game by an official poll. The first of these abilities is the ever-popular Mirror. The second one is... Sleep? Okay, then...
