YMMV / Kemurikusa

  • Accidental Innuendo: Wakaba's obsession with trying to touch Rin's Memory Leaf trough the season received this reaction from a lot of fans.
  • Ass Pull: For some people, Wakaba managing to survive not once but twice the Red Tree's apparently fatal attacks could count as this. The first time (where one of its roots made a big hole on his chest) wasn't as troublesome since it would make sense for him to be able to put a Midori leave between him and the root before it managed to perforate him, but the second time (when one of the Tree's roots crushed him) was, since it hadn't been hinted before that the vine used to tie him was made from Midori and had the same healing properties as its leaves, much less that Wakaba had a little piece of it stored inside his pocket which allowed him to heal and avoid death. However, this was still considered a rather good move since allowing Wakaba to die would've been a rather downer.
  • Awesome Music: the OP of the series is pure hype. The ending is no slouch either, they even got part of the cast to sing along in the last episode.
  • Cargo Ship: If one would consider Midori an object rather than one of the main companions of the group, then Ritsu's love for it would fall on this category.
  • Creepy Awesome: The Red Tree, specially its core branch, for being such a threatening and eldritch villain with an origin, design, and powers which wouldn't be out of place in a H. P. Lovecraft novel.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • The three dead sisters, Riku, Ryo and Ryoku, are very liked due to having well-established personalities and good designs just like their sisters. The fact that they are Not Quite Dead and actually helped the main group to complete their journey and defeat the Red Tree helped as well.
    • The First Person AKA Riri was being talked about and receiving a storm of theories about who she was, her origins and how did she split into the sisters even before she was introduced. Her popularity skyrocketed after Episode 11, where her gut-wrenching backstory was fully revealed to the viewers.
    • The Shiros, thanks to being small cute robots which communicate by emoticons and serve a helpful guide for the group during the story. The fact that they can combine themselves to form Humongous Mechas capable of cutting the Red Tree's roots garnered them even more fans.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Why does Ritsu always seems tired and doesn't seems to sleep that much? Well, since she obtained the Sense of Hearing from The First Person, it would make sense that even the slightest sound would be able to wake her up, hence why she can't rest that much compared to her sisters.
    • Why does Shiro follow Wakaba, and why do all the other Shiros regard Wakaba as their Captain despite him not knowing about them before? Wakaba is the resurrection of the first Wakaba, who was in charge of backing up the cultural and historical assets of humanity, and he was in charge of these Shiros before the Red Tree engulfed everything.
  • Growing the Beard: It's generally accepted that the season got better after Episode 4, thanks to Wakaba starting to receive his Character Development and Took a Level in Badass moments, the dead and living sisters' backstories being mentioned more often and the main objective getting established after half a season of only wandering searching for water and a place to live.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The thing that got Yayorozu kicked out from Kadokawa and Kemono Friends was supposedly a few unofficially licensed commercials, one of which included an advertisement for Nissin's instant kitsune udon. Kemurikusa does the same thing during its run (again for Nissin), and sales for the product went through the roof. It also symbolizes how successful Kemurikusa itself ended up being considering the how Kemurikusa ended up being the more popular show compared to running mate Kemono Friends 2.
    • Some fans also hail a fan theory that the series actually bridges to Kemono Friends, judging from the last scene of Kemurikusa.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The constant sound that is made when a Kemurikusa leaf is being activated, thanks to signifying that it's going to be used to advance on the story and the adventure.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: In the beginning, Wakaba was such a change of pace for main characters that people didn't like him; he was naive, overly curious, his "I'm fascinated!" Catchphrase seemed to be used too often, his uselessness in combat situations, and his status as The One Guy in the story stood out from all-female casts that Yayorozu did in the few years before this series. However, once his tendencies were toned down and we learned why he was the way he was, many fans were accepting and even embracing Wakaba towards the end of the show. His original incarnation helped sway fans as well.
