• Jerkass Woobie: Tohru's mom, Shizu, was taught at a young age to never emote else to bring shame upon the family, was whisked into an Arranged Marriage and her husband cheated on her. Tohru himself feels quite sorry about what his poor mother went through.
• Realism-Induced Horror: Uncle's worst fear, as revealed by the power of Phobos? That he's going senile, abandoned in a nursing home by a Jackie who never visits.
