YMMV / Island of Death

Go To

  • Fair for Its Day: While the gay and lesbian characters in the film are rather stereotypical, they are still depicted as fundamentally decent people, and their murders are explicitly presented as horrifying.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Everyone in this film is either an evil bastard or a victim. Not only that, but the genuinely upsetting violence and overall bleak tone can make the whole thing come across as grimdark solely for the sake of shock value.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: Nico Mastorakis has insisted that the film was made with purely mercenary motives, and was never intended to serve as any sort of statement on anything. This hasn't stopped some, including YouTuber lampyman101, from seeing it as a commentary on political and/or religious hypocrisy.
