Strangled by the Red String: Even those who supported Lizzie/Julian were thrown off by how quickly they got together. Their interactions in Bye Bye Birdie and Blast From the Past are fairly platonic, with the focus being on Charlie and Dylan respectively. Come Live, Julian appears to be crushing on her at the beginning of the episode, but otherwise things are very subtle. Then they make out at the end of the episode.
Tear Jerker: In "Bye Bye Birdie", Lizzie learns her murdered fiance was corrupt. There's a silent, close-up shot of her heartbroken face and trembling lip as she stops and tries not to break down. And again when she arrests the real culprit, who framed Charlie.
In "Blast From the Past," Julian realizing that Dylan, his best (and probably only) friend, was an unwilling part of an extremely unethical psychological experiment that even Julian thought was horrific, and not as a researcher.
