  • Cliché Storm: Despite claiming not to be a cliche creepypasta, it actually is. There's lots of blood, it has a dramatic secret that's dark for the series in question, only the writer has ever found this secret, etc. This was the author's intention, as it was meant to parody such pastas.
  • Fandom-Specific Plot: Most stories based on this focus towards the fascinating and heartbreaking plot of Luigi working for Bowser and desiring to kill Mario whom ends up killing his brother in self-defense than the fact that this was meant to be parody of ROM hacks/creepypastas.
  • Memetic Mutation: The title itself, along with Luigi's line "You thought Koopa worked alone?" have become a popular source of memes and snowclones.
  • Misaimed Fandom: The creepypasta was originally written to be a parody of the many pastas that follow its formula, but the quality of the writing and managing to be terrifying in its own right anyways has made this fact fly over many people's heads, crowning it as one of the more popular pastas in the Mario community.
  • Narm:
    • The story describing Luigi as Mario's "second banana" can cause giggles for those who have never heard the term before.
    • Mario looks only mildly annoyed at worst at the sight of his brother's melted face in the closing image, rather than horrified. Cybershell had had a field day with it when he made fun of it on Retsupurae:
Cybershell: You're ruining the picture, Luigi! Stop being dead!
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The standalone .exe version has it when you collect the skull mushroom and before the game ends, the EXE version shows a bunch of scary pictures that have little to do with Super Mario.
    • The ending with the mutilated Luigi and crying Peach does little to comfort as well.
    • The fact that Luigi not only is working with Bowser, but desires to kill Mario is disturbing as it is heartbreaking, especially with Mario pushing him off into lava in self-defense.
  • Nightmare Retardant: The text and images don't match. The Mario vs Luigi cutscene is described as dramatic and intense, however there's only so much that can be done with the sprites.
