YMMV / Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed

  • Game-Breaker: Several.
    • The in-game cheats that unlock after reaching certain milestones literally reach the point where your characters are invincible and turn every enemy into a One-Hit-Point Wonder. Even better is that using the in-game cheats does not disable earning trophies.
    • Both Purple Heart and Purple Sister do not stop when using their weak attacks, allowing to constantly plow through hordes of enemies and, in some cases, kill enemies as quickly as they can respawn, thus allowing them to stay in HDD mode indefinitely.
    • Vert's regular form is top tier in this game as her full combo allows her to tear through hordes of enemies without any SP costs while raking up both the damage and combo count.
    • Reach Chapter 3, equip Rom with Last Explosion (which only costs 1000 SP), and watch entire groups of enemies get blown away and killed in a single casting.
    • The ranged characters are usually balanced by not being as mobile when attacking. Put them in their Super Modes, however, and that single weakness is nullified. Up to eleven when they're equipped with the accessory that gives them full EXE Gauge from the start.
  • High-Tier Scrappy:
    • When people say who the most overpowered character is in the game, it's usually Vert. Great crowd control, fast attacks, fast recovery rate allowing players to stun lock bosses, attacks have a chance to stun enemies and with the number of hits she does, it might as well be at a 100% unless enemies are immune, can attack while dashing which results to heavy usage of dashing-dash attack-dashing to move really fast across the field, and a lot of Hitbox Dissonance on her attacks. In fact, transforming her as Green Heart makes her worse has her combos end in the air and has a long recovery time. Never be surprised when the best chance players have to get the Low-Level Run trophy for beating the Superboss is to use Vert with the second character being nothing more than a backup.
    • Uni also qualifies. Unlimited combo by simply parking her at a corner, holding down the attack button (and not her actual combo, which is almost useless) and auto-aiming will simply slaughter all non-boss monsters in no time. Transforming her into Black Sister actually makes her worse with slower attacks and projectiles, and more importantly, the loss of the infinite shooting combo.
    • A couple steps below Vert and Uni is Dengekiko, due to her sheer versatility and powerful aerial game.
  • Low-Level Run: The game has an accessory that locks playable characters levels to one, no matter how many experiences they gain. This is also a requirement for a trophy to beat the Superboss.
  • Low-Tier Letdown:
    • Famitsu is too SP reliant for crowd control and combos only going straight forward. She has some air combos but Dengekiko does better.
    • Noire is also here given many of her attacks don't cover as much area as it looks like they should, her chains often throw her right into enemy attacks, and the end of her combos often leave her open without even the chance to dash cancel. If Noire is a front-line fighter, don't expect her clothes to survive the mission.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: "Target down!" when fighting a very tough boss.
  • Polished Port: Like the rest of the Neptunia games ported to PC, the Steam release can run in HD resolutions, and runs at 60 FPS.
  • That One Achievement:
    • Once again, maxing out everyone's Lily Ranks with each other takes far longer than any other non-Platinum trophy in the game. It takes about 24 battles between a duo that's teamed up to get from Lily Rank 1 to Lily Rank 10. With 10 characters in the game that's 45 possible pairings and requires playing at least 1,000 quests. Neptral Tower makes this easier with its short levels and load times, but it still takes a great deal of time. For context: The main story has only about 80 quests and none of them need to be repeated unless grinding for exp. or medals.
    • Completing every quest. Aside from the sheer number of them, plenty of them are missable if you only focus on the story-based ones and proceed with the plot. While the game does highlight the ones that advance the story, it doesn't make mention that many of the optional ones are missable, so you're only likely to notice once you already have a very high amount of quests cleared.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Dengekiko and Famitsu have a conversation about how worrisome it is that their companies are capable of providing technology that puts them on par with the CPUs, but the thread of potential abuse of that technology isn't followed.
  • Woolseyism: Par for the course in this series.
    • "Blan-chan" becoming "Blanny-Blanny-Bii" is the most noticeable.
    • During Compa's Beware the Nice Ones moment, her Verbal Tic of "desu" in Japanese is replaced with an endless chant of "Die!"
