YMMV / House of Hell

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: This was a greatly expanded version of a shorter adventure which originally appeared in Warlock magazine.
  • Cliché Storm: A loving homage to Gothic-Horror films from Dracula to House on Haunted Hill and trashy Video-Nasties from Rosemary's Baby to Poltergeist. Of course, for most players, the parade of cliches are all part of the fun.
  • Complete Monster: On modern-day Earth instead of Titan, Lord Kelnor, Earl of Drumer, is a wicked Satanist who inherited Drumer long ago while making pacts with a powerful demon known as The Master who takes the form of his butler Franklins. The Master and Kelnor fed Kelnor's own sister to his vampire lieutenant, before taking countless people to gruesomely sacrifice for demonic power with Kelnor's cult. Working in tandem, the two abduct many innocents, in many cases having them tortured with some in so much pain that they lose their minds, before they are sacrificed. When the protagonist arrives, Kelnor wastes little time trying to have them sacrificed as well, willing to stop at nothing to preserve his dark powers.
  • Spiritual Successor: The novel received a companion/sequel of sorts called Blood of the Zombies, written by Ian Livingstone.
  • Technology Marches On: Playing this book now (especially if you play it as an iOS Application), you can't help but chuckle at the fact that if your character only had a fully charged cellphone or smartphone, all this pain and horror could have been completely avoided.
