YMMV / Home Improvement: Power Tool Pursuit!

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The Home Improvement theme is re-created faithfully and it sounds very good on the SNES.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The game's "manual" stating that "real men don't need instructions" in lieu of any actual info on how to play the game comes across this way, given that most games from around the mid-2010s onward generally eschew any form of instruction manual in favor of in-game tutorials.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: An unfortunate example. Power Tool Pursuit! has some legitimately good ideas and a solid foundation. Running around wielding powerful tool weaponry and fighting off deadly animatronics on movie sets seems pretty awesome, and it is... for a couple minutes. Unfortunately, the obtuse, labyrinthine level design and the unforgiving difficulty are crippling flaws that really suck the fun out of the experience for many players, turning the game into a repetitive chore to play. You can get some enjoyment out of it, but only if you're willing to sit through it. It's not completely horrible like some more infamous games of its era, but as it is, Power Tool Pursuit! is a tragic case of where Rule of Cool just doesn't work.
