  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Plenty in the retro episodes as well as Shino herself.
    • Shino going from a Shrinking Violet to a vengeful, possessive ghost out for blood. Did this change occur after her death, or was she already like this and was simply much better at hiding it than Nanase? Another is apparently, she'll threaten people if they don't treat transfer students well if they go to the school in the Reiwa Era.
    • Nanase's change from a Nice Girl to being a cold and petty Alpha Bitch. Was Nanase a genuinely a nice girl who suddenly changed, was she always a Jerkass who kept her Jerk with a Heart of Jerk very well-hidden, or was she a nice girl who was possessed by a ghost? Her passive aggressive attitude towards Shino seems to support the second case while the screen glitching seems to indicate that the third point is the possibility.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Since her first appearance, fans really love Nanase. It helps that Nanase is played by Suisei Hoshimachi, hololive's premiere Heroic Comedic Sociopath, who does an absolutely stellar job at making Nanase hateable but still interesting.
  • Fridge Horror:
    • Shino's ability to act outside of school grounds is rife with this. It genuinely seems to imply that trying to escape her is the non-combative equivalent of a Hopeless Boss Fight, with even leaving the school after whatever offense may have triggered her not helping unless you move out of town entirely. And even then, who knows how far she can truly reach you from...
    • Chapter 18's revelation that the Furukawas used wood from the haunted forest to develop Aogami into what it is now. That's right; every building made since the Furukawas came to town is potentially haunted. And as we've seen from Nanase and Mari, these spirits do not like to fool around when it comes to getting revenge. If you've slighted the children of the woods in any way, even by just walking in the woods one too many times, there's nowhere to hide. Not even your own home or school is safe from them.
  • He Really Can Act: The girls' acting ability really shines in this series. Special mention goes to Sora, Suisei, and Miko, who were able to give a truly amazing and sad performance with their respective characters.
  • Heartwarming Moments: A few stand out:
    • Chapter 7 sees Nanase respectfully and positively bond with Shino, inviting her to the movie and dinner that was denied in Episode 4. While momentary, it's sweet on Nanase's part as it's a breakaway from her Alpha Bitch and Jerkass tendencies.
    • Up until The Reveal, Uzuki looking out for the Transfer Student stands out as despite the two being complete strangers that met only moments before boarding the train, she's happy to share her knowledge and gets the latter away from Akane when she hurts the Transfer Student, and is very concerned when they come down with a sudden, debilitating headache after finding the yearbook.
    • In Chapter 23, once Shino remembers her prayer from Chapter 8 and decides to finally stop running from the truth, she makes a beeline towards the Aogami Shrine where Sakura is still wallowing in sorrow, before comforting her and saying that it's Sakura's time to rest and to let her finish what she couldn't before her death. Sakura meekly states that she was selfish in her wish, but thanks Shino nonetheless before she's surrounded by her 19XX friends, who encourage her to Go into the Light and finally let go as she passes peacefully in her sleep. Even moreso, she ascends to become the new Goddess and protector of the revitalized Aogami in the final Chapter as seen below.
    • With all of her 19XX friends having moved on, Shino addresses the classmates she's met over the course of the series if they'll all be her friends again; not just those in the "Perfect World", but those from earlier in the series from July and February 20XX. The scene transitions back to the classroom at Aogami High, with Shino flanked by Kana, Kanade, Hotaru, Mitsuki and Yuki, with Inari, Hanabi, Saki, Touka and Suzune in front of her. She thanks them for bring her happiness, but that it's time for her to head home as she says her farewells. Hanabi and Inari warmly send her off. Cutting to the train, Yuka sadly wishes she and Akane could've spent more time with Shino, all while Akane, Uzuki, Kaoru, Saya and Miku see Shino off with a smile as she returns to Aogami Station. And after one final goodbye, she goes to plant the seeds Sakura left for her and Set Right What Once Went Wrong. Miraculously, it works, leading to...
    • The Final Chapter. ALL OF IT. After all the suffering and tragedy that has occurred over almost the entire series, Sakura’s sacrifice was no longer in vain and Shino’s wish finally came true, revitalizing Aogami and resurrecting all of Shino’s friends save for Sakura who is now Aogami’s Guardian Entity in the form of the sakura trees she made in her life. And Shino enjoying her friends’ companionship, even Mari, before the final photo showing her most precious smile surrounded by her friends. After going through an endless repetition of events, this is one happy ending that she truly earned and is most certainly well-deserved. Cue Tears of Joy.
Shino: And so the transfer student prayed. Indeed, she prayed... "May we all live happily ever after."
    • The official hololive ERROR chocolate wafers all include cards with artwork of various girls. On the back of the cards is dialogue from the respective girl, giving the reader chocolates. Seeing them in such a happy scenario, once again, feels really good after all the crap they went through in the main series.
  • Ho Yay: With the reveal that the Transfer Students are female, it makes their interactions with several girls filled with this, to the point of flirtatious. It also makes Nanase's interest in the past Transfer Student both hilarious and terrifying in hindsight.
  • Narm: The entire notion that Nanase and Mari suffered from their headaches as a result of the trees being polluted. Looking at the scenery around Aogami, how come this didn't occur to anyone else besides Shino in the vicinity of the school during Chapter 17, where there were an abundance of decaying trees? It undermines the entire supernatural aspect that occurs before and after this revelation, and isn't referenced at all in the Complete Edition.
  • Narm Charm: The Animated Manga features a wide variety of anthropomorphic idols, mythical and fantasy creatures as well as varying thematic idols as well, which you'd think wouldn't fit in a high-school horror story, and yet, somehow, despite (or because of it) being COVER's first attempt, and as shown by He Really Can Act above, the spine-tingling ambience and sound design, Awesome Art and Scenery Gorn, as well as the classic slow-burn Surreal Horror ala Higurashi: When They Cry and Silent Hill, it unexpectedly works to create a truly haunting and terrifying effect.
  • Signature Scene:
  • Tear Jerker: Has its own page.
  • Unexpected Character: Due to Mio stating that she wasn't planning on getting into ERROR, the presence of Miku Kamishiro is quite a pleasant surprise.
  • Wild Mass Guessing: The Doylist reason for the game's art room ghost is simply "we didn't want to hurt a hololive talent on-screen and so we changed it". On the other hand, the Watsonian reason for her existence has seen a pretty large amount of variance amongst the fandom, from the game being an Alternate Timeline to her being a Perfect World construct turned Paradox Person after Shino found out about Mari.
  • The Woobie: Has own page.
