• Angst? What Angst?: After a scene in which they've participated in an gunfight that killed more than a dozen cops, Russel and Chief Marium have a surprisingly normal dinner of pasta and red wine with Marium's wife. Instead of being shell-shocked and horrified by the bloodbath, they seem simply exhausted and sad. You'd also think they'd be pretty occupied by investigations and paperwork in the immediate aftermath.
• Critical Dissonance: Holds a respectable 70% "Fresh" rating from critics but a 30% "Rotten" rating from audiences.
• Genius Bonus: Much of the characters' actions can be explained with some knowledge of Eskimo mythology that is hinted at in the film.
  • Early in the story, the sheriff mentions that the villagers said something about some kind of wolf demon called a "tournak" or something; he most likely misheard the word "tunraq", a malevolent spirit that can be tamed by shamans.
  • Although mostly reserved to girls, infanticide is a reported aspect of Eskimo culture.
