  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Is Kai cutting ties with Bocchi truly an act of Tough Love or had she been too rash with the decision? Was she being selfish since she knew on some level it would deeply hurt Bocchi? Chapter 68 reveals that while Kai thought it was tough love, a way to get Bocchi to interact with more than one person and not let her shyness hold herself back (Bocchi, who's rather smart, would have gotten into Kai's middle school had she not been too shy to take the interview), she also thought she'd said something terrible to Bocchi, and punished herself by not talking to anyone at her new school until someone managed to get through to her. On the other hand, in Chapter 85, Nako agrees with Kai about how important it is for Bocchi to be confident enough to take the exams, and while Nako doesn't go as far as to explicitly approve of Kai's actions, she does say that Bocchi came as far as she did because she strove to keep her promise to Kai.
  • Awesome Music: Aru's Image Song, "Don't Lose, Aru," a triumphant theme song that contains a lot of Aru's signature boasting, (e.g. "everyone's vice-chairman"). The fact that it plays while Aru humiliates herself during her tennis match with Nako only makes it more hilarious.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Kai. Detractors feel she's needlessly harsh on Bocchi by refusing to be friends until the latter has befriended her entire class, and consider her a bad friend that Bocchi should leave behind in favour of Nako and the others. Supporters argue that with how dependent on her Bocchi was, Kai's decision to cut ties was a necessary, if poorly thought-out act of Tough Love, and also cite her regret for the whole situation as a sign that she had no malicious intentions.
  • Cult Classic: It didn't perform too great financially during its original run in the 2010s as a manga or anime, especially in comparison to the other Bocchi-named series that would follow, but has not been forgotten by those who have gotten the chance to experience it.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: A number of fans interpret Bocchi as being autistic, as many of her quirks — such as trying to adhere to a literal script when hanging out with a friend, not being able to tell whether people are joking, and going into way too much detail about something off-topic — are common Autism Spectrum characteristics.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • With Senryu Girl which has its own Shrinking Violet protagonist (in fact the series is full of shy girls), as well as with Komi Can't Communicate on account of the two series both revolving around a Shrinking Violet girl trying to make friends with as many people as possible, but tackling the premise in their own unique ways. Fans of all three manga will find common ground that the main characters must be protected at all costs.
    • With Bocchi the Rock!, another series about a socially anxious girl whose Meaningful Name is a play on the Japanese term for "all alone."

  • Moe: Every character ranging from the painfully shy Bocchi, to the perpetually unfortunate Aru, and even the fearful teacher Oshie are adorable.
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • In Chapter 51, Bocchi befriends a student who never came to class, whose problems with social anxiety are worse than Bocchi's own. Considering that Bocchi's first few friends took the initiative to reach out to her, that's a testament to how far Bocchi's come.
    • Chapter 93. Bocchi gets into high school through a recommendation, a form of application that places more emphasis on the interview, succeeding where she failed when applying to middle school.
    • Chapter 94-95. All of Bocchi's closest friends, even Nako, get into her high school.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Kai as of episode 7. Sure, she meant well by breaking up with Bocchi, but the immense suffering she imposes on Bocchi and the fact that she acts like a total jerk toward her former best bud don't exactly garner her points among the fans. Despite crying over what she did, fans were on Bocchi's side instead of hers. Refusing to speak to Bocchi and acknowledging that she did try to make friends really pissed the fans off on a protective scale.
  • The Woobie:
    • Bocchi. Her insecurity, initial lack of friends, and severe anxiety altogether make you just want to give the poor girl a big hug. That said, she does get better overtime (and does manage to make some friends too), and she's surprisingly optimistic in spite of her anxiety, making her more of an Iron Woobie.
    • Futou Kou, who stayed at home since elementary school out of embarrassment after vomiting in front of her class, skipping school for a year and a half.
    • Stoic Woobie: Omoi Kakeru. A girl who tries to speak with aliens in order to communicate with her deceased mom.
