- Award Snub: It was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won three, but Mia Farrow wasn't up for Best Actress nor Barbara Hershey for Best Supporting Actress.
- Awesome Music:
- Harry James' "You Made Me Love You" appears both during the opening credits and when Holly and Mickey have lunch. Meanwhile, James' "I've Heard That Song Before" plays during the opening scene and reappears during a few scenes between Lee and Elliot.
- Mickey and Holly's awful date includes some awesome music. Bobby Short performs "I'm In Love Again" and, though they might look like they're about to take hostages, 39 Steps' "Slip Into the Crowd" is a pretty decent punk rock song.
- Harsher in Hindsight: When we're introduced to Cliff, he's told that he has to cut some pedophilia-related jokes from the sitcom script he's directing, and he jokingly says that from the headlines it seems like half the country is doing it. Years later, Mia Farrow accused Woody Allen of sexually molesting their adopted children, and years later their daughter Dylan Farrow publicly corroborated the accusations. Just how harsh this seems depends on whose side of the story you believe.
- One-Scene Wonder:
- Technically a Two Scene Wonder, Max von Sydow's misanthropic artist Frederick steals both scenes he has with Lee.
- Mickey's parents milk every second out of the scene they have in the film.
Mickey's Dad: How the hell do I know why there were Nazis? I don't know how the can opener works!- Daniel Stern as Dusty, a vapid rock star who wants to buy some of Frederick's paintings.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- A very young pre-The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Lewis Black is talking to Mickey at the start of his story.
- John Turturro and Julia Louis-Dreyfus appear in the scene as well.
- Richard Jenkins appears in a brief scene as one of the doctors Mickey consults when develops fears that he may have a brain tumor.
- She Really Can Act: This was the first time Carrie Fisher was allowed to show off her acting chops post-Star Wars trilogy.
- Signature Scene: "I have my answer. I have my answer! I'm walking on air!"
- Tear Jerker: The breakup between Lee and Frederick is so powerful the crew were in tears during filming.
