YMMV / Goncharov

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • This fan-made main theme of the movie is a somber melody with a somewhat-sinister undercurrent that perfectly sets the pessimistic tone of the film. It starts out with a more Russian-composition, though comes to include more Italian instruments to complement it.

  • Fanfic Fuel: Goncharov's nature as a Play-Along Meme means that just enough of the major details are set in stone that it's internally consistent, while still leaving most of the specifics vague. The result could be best described as a fanfic writer's playground to experiment with characters, plot points and ideas with little in the way of explicit canon to stop them from writing whatever they want.
  • Fandom Rivalry: An odd one between this film and Avatar. When Goncharov exploded in popularity online and started getting fanfiction, it quickly began to catch up with the number of fics for Avatar. Cue a fandom effort to write even more fic of Goncharov, solely for the comedic value of a non-existent film having more fanfiction than the highest grossing movie of all time.
    • It also had a rivalry with fans of Zepotha, a similarly fictitious '80s horror film created for a Viral Marketing campaign that appeared on TikTok in August 2023. While Zepotha was fairly successful in its own right, it was widely disliked by fans of Goncharov, who criticized it for its perceived forced, inorganic nature, lack of creativity, and attempt to duplicate Goncharov's success. Some fans of Zepotha also tried to claim responsibility for the creation of Goncharov; understandably, Tumblr didn't take kindly to this.
  • Play-Along Meme: This is, perhaps, the ultimate form of the concept of a play-along meme — an entirely fictional film held up as real by everyone involved, including Lynda Carter and Martin Scorsese.
