YMMV / Godzilla: Monster of Monsters!

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The game's soundtrack is quite catchy, with the best examples being the Title Theme & Planet X, Earth, Mars, as well as the boss themes of Moguera & Baragon, Gigan and Ghidora, which contains samples of Godzilla's theme.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Whether Mothra is a Low-Tier Letdown or Difficult, but Awesome character is debated. She does a low amount of damage compared to Godzilla, and being knocked back by damage is annoying, but many believe her flight powers make up for it.
  • Breather Boss:
  • Demonic Spiders: One of the most obnoxious enemies in the game is a particular spaceship shaped like a horseshoe that can take out 80% of your health in one, well placed blow, and is also pretty much invulnerable. And it doesn't help that it becomes MUCH more common throughout the course of the game.
    • Being a flying kaiju, Mothra can at least dodge it. With Godzilla, your best bet is to move all the way to the left side of the screen to minimize the damage it does before it flies off screen. Otherwise, it'll just drag you with it as it goes and wipe you out. However, Godzilla can move while swinging his tail. Doing that while moving through this thing will greatly negate the damage. As a result, it would take out at least two bars of health (which would be 10-20% of your health).
    • The thing can be destroyed by Godzilla's radioactive fire, but it's not easy to pull this off.
  • Goddamned Bats: Markelite Cannons. They usually announce their arrival onscreen by promptly blasting you in the face, doing a nice chunk of damage and knocking Godzilla back(and Mothra down). Fortunately, they're slow to recharge, and you can usually destroy them before they can take a second shot.
  • Goddamned Boss: Gezora is also this, thanks to a bug where it can corner you and constantly smack you with its tentacle, dealing no damage but freezing you at place. The fact that battles in this game are timed and it regenerates health after the battle timer ends does not help.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: No pun intended. A lot of people play it just to experience the origin of the NES Godzilla Creepypasta.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The password theme. Not only does it have an very ominous tune to it, but it seems out of place in a game like this.
    • This hidden area, only accessible by the cheat code “X Y C”. It’s a colorless area with no music, no monsters except for Hedorah, and the only Ring Fields being countless Base Ring Fields and a single Sub-space Ring Field. Mess around enough, and you get a password, along with the Game Over screen.
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: It can get a little repetitive, but for a licensed NES game, it's a pretty dang good Beat 'em Up with catchy music and impressive sprite work.
  • That One Boss:
    • Gigan. Not only can he back you into a corner, but he can also completely DESTROY you with his buzzsaw. And you can't do anything to stop it! You're dead the moment he has you in that corner. The worst part? Whether he does this or not is entirely random.
      • If you very quickly land punches on him at the right time in the right placement, you'll be able to keep him away for long enough to prevent him from doing enough damage.
      • While Mothra's superweapon doesn't do as much damage as Godzilla's, using her eye beam repeatedly will mostly keep Gigan at bay, preventing him from using his buzzsaw and slowly weaken him over time.
    • Mechagodzilla while playing as Godzilla. Whereas Mothra could exploit a blind spot and keep herself safe from his attacks, Godzilla is forced to fight him head-on and endure his No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.
