- Alternative Character Interpretation:
- At the end when Kelly loses her mind and kills her husband, did she do it to avoid being 'locked away in a far away place where nobody can disturb her'? Or was she imagining/hallucinating her husband saying that and he really was just trying to get her some professional help?
- Billy and Kelly murdering people as a means to avoid being taken away from their Morality Pet — their demon J.D.
- When Kelly confesses to Billy that she lost her mind once and that she was hearing voices telling her to do bad things like Billy's demon J.D. tells him to, was she making it up to empathize with him and keep him from murdering her? Or did it actually happen to her so she knows what Billy is going through? The ending suggests the latter when she snaps and kills her husband.
- When Billy gets taken away by the police, is the demon J.D. really unable to prevent him from going into an awful place where she isn't allowed to be with him? Or did she abandon him and throw him to the wolves as payback for when he contemplated earlier helping and listening to someone other than J.D?
- Some fans interpret the demon J.D. as an allegory for drug addiction. Her victims take extreme comfort in being with their special vice and absolutely refuse to be separated from their addiction by whichever means necessary. The fact that both victims addiction has driven them to commit murder and have driven them to hiding in bad places from the cops doesn't help.
- Les Yay: The villainess demon J.D. tenderly stroking Kelly's hair after the woman successfully carried out a murder.
- Mindgame Ship: The demon J.D with her hosts Billy Thorp and Kelly Delgado. Fans ship both people (or all three of them together) with the demon as couples due to their toxic dependency on each other.
- One True Threesome: J.D/Billy/Kelly.
- Retroactive Recognition: Actor Tony Hale in one of his earliest television roles long before his iconic break as Buster Bluth in Arrested Development.
