- Accidental Innuendo: The scene where Pete's "line of sight" droops upon sighting Clarabelle has been seen as something else when according to Word of God it was meant to be subtle foreshadowing as the music briefly stops for a moment.
- Award Snub: A daring fusion of old and new animation, that plays havoc with the fourth wall and functions as both a love letter to Disney of yore and as a compelling adventure — and it lost to Mr. Hublot, a sweet-but-conventional French animated short.
- Broken Base: Many critics and fans gave it a very positive reception, citing it as a creative premise with some of Disney's best animation in the current era, but others dislike it for containing CGI and not being a straightforward black-and-white throwback, or alternately for not copying the black-and-white style well enough.
- Fridge Logic:
- Very few modern theaters have curtains and a stage in front of the screen. Namely, the themed ones and relatively old theaters built as late as 1990s still have, at very least, curtains. The newer ones that have been retrofitted for THX audio and 3D movies, however, usually don't, usually to meet the THX requirements.
- How does Mickey know about the color red if he's lived in a black and white world all his life?
- People can know about other colours but not see them regularly. Since he's only ever seen things in black and white, He never knew his pants were actually red, and assumed they were white all along.
- Furthermore, Mickey's first official coloration in any media had his pants colored green back in 1932. So Mickey could be amazed at seeing his more modern colors.
