• Alternative Character Interpretation: Occurs In-Universe, with Khyber finding it unlikely that Ben simply became complacent after all his accomplishments. He theorises that Ben's current cocky and immature attitude is actually a way to distance himself from how cold he was before and avoid coming close to crossing a line. Ben's silence suggests he's right.
• Anti-Climax Boss:
  • Junko Enoshima in Chap 45 Despair's Attempt Part 4. Junko is out to break Ben, she's got the upper hand and has brainwashed Makoto into a agent of Despair and pitted her against her boyfriend. What happens? Ben uses ReBoot, destroys all of Junko's electronic controls and files, quickly overpowers her, and creates a video to return Makoto to normal in the space of a few minutes. Not the most satisfying conclusion.
  • And then Manaka Towa shows up in a giant Monokuma with the army of the evil bears now under her command...and get destroyed by GARO out of nowhere. At least ReBoot had been established in story.
    • Then again, having a Climax Boss fight is exactly what Junko would have wanted, and would have resulted in The Unfought where she undergoes a punishment game of her own design while she mocks everyone who has fought her.
• Character Rerailment: For both Ben and Vilgax.
• Nightmare Fuel: Several moments like this happen, mainly when villains are involved.
  • In Chapter 9 of GSESS, Yuki Terumi performs a massive slaughter by not only destroying a neighborhood with a train and the bridge it was on above said neighborhood via a bomb, but also used the Despair caused by it to snap Junko Enoshima back to her 'normal' self and let her slaughter all but one Plumber that only survive because Garo appeared.
  • Chapter 82 ends with Phil being contacted by the Imperators
  • Chapter 83, after being a mostly lighthearted chapter, suddenly ends with the revelation that the fic's gonna do an adaptation of Alien X-Tinction, the Series Finale of the Ben 10 Reboot!
• Take That, Scrappy!: The Rooters getting unceremoniously offed by Vilgax reads as this.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Makoto Nanaya getting turned into a agent of Despair was a cool idea. It's a shame she was quickly reverted back to normal without doing much of anything.[[spoiler:Though Makoto is still shown to be deeply traumatized by what happened, even if she tries to cover it up.
