  • Awesome Music: Most of the game has fantastic music, and check out the intro to the game for some of the best.
  • Badass Decay: The Gunboats, the first one you meet looks terrifying, then destroying them becomes routine.
    • This is helped by the fact that Titan Gunboats, the ones you'll face in the latter parts of the game, have a glaring weakness; no guns in the back! So you can get right up the engines and shoot with impunity. Also, that first one has the best armour and guns of the three types, and you don't have much in the way of weapons yourself at that early stage.
  • Fridge Logic: You get told in the intro and the first briefing that Internal Affairs are around. One has to wonder if the deaths of Elaine and later Tachikawa has anything to do with it, given how you now know the whole thing is being covered up. And more to the point, the end of mission 25, where Ricardo shoots Horton dead and runs off with his Cortex Chip, and hence his brain data and military leadership skills. Was he spooked into acting sooner than intended because he suspected, or even knew for definite, that Speke was on to him?
  • Green-Eyed Monster: One possible explanation for why Riccardo did all the crap he did, or why he chose those particular victims; Elaine had won commendations and Tachikawa was a Living Legend. Also bear in mind his Last Words are "I always was, and always will be, better than you Slater!" Sounds like an Inferiority Superiority Complex.
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • Blowing up the Nanosoft capital ship from the inside, then hauling ass out of the massive ship as it explodes around you. Destroying their HQ earlier on is a highlight too.
    • Any mission after first getting the Venom is usually more fun than the preceding ones.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Did anyone else find that in the mission Where you need to breach that dome with the Cruiser in and realizing you were outnumbered, outgunned and with the traitor Ricardo bearing down on you to be utterly terrifying?
  • Obvious Beta: The Venom when you first get it. You're even told it's still work in progress.
  • That One Level: Mission 10, vs the Gunboat mentioned in Badass Decay, can be a nightmare. Best advice, throw all your homing missiles at it from a distance, go back to base and rearm, repeat.
    • Missions 13-15 can all be pretty cruel if the computer is in the mood.
    • Mission 29, doing stealthy recon for the following Storming the Castle mission, can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing, plus it seems to be a Timed Mission which they don't bother telling you.
    • Mission 34 can be quite rage inducing, which kind of ruins the duel with Ricardo.
