• Fanon Discontinuity: Regarding the endings and especially the fate of Anne. Respectively the Sacrifice one is view as Downer Ending and the other as a possible Stable Time Loop. These endings frustrated a lot of players, feeling there were no good choice or even any choice possible for Anne, while the game constantly reminds the choices you make earlier. Some people even get the Aesop that Anne didn't have her place anywhere, regarding the world she was — which isn't exactly heartwarming. Fanfic writers disregard the latter ending and pretends the Sacrifice Ending only kill Bonku (or neither) and nowadays work to make amend, or even Take a Third Option to make sure Anne gets her happy ending.
• Nightmare Fuel: The Forgotten Pieces. Weird fragments that swarm you mercilessly if you enter their territory while holding anima, like some sort of psychotic bugs. They can't stand light, but screech and seem to catch fire when throwing themselves into a lighted zone in pursuit of you.
