- And You Thought It Would Fail: Nobody besides Walt Disney himself expected the short to be a hit, especially considering that having the short be done entirely in color instead of black and white as it originally was would prove to be quite risky financially-wise. Instead, the short turned out to be successful enough, both critically and commercially, that future Disney shorts were made entirely in color.
- Fridge Horror: We never see the lizard that lives in the evil tree's mouth get out before the fire kills the tree. The tree's death mostly happens offscreen, but still...
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The little flames on feet that run around spreading the fire look an awful lot like Hot Foots.
- Moral Event Horizon: The evil tree crosses it when he sets the whole forest on fire.
