YMMV / Flight 29 Down

  • Billing Displacement: High School Musical premiered in the middle of the show's first season, and as a result, all subsequent promos and advertising depicted Corbin Bleu (Nathan) as the star. The series is an ensemble program, but if anyone could be called the "lead", it would be Hallee Hirsh (Daley).
  • Iron Woobie: While all of the castaways angst, Jackson has more reasons to do so, but he handles it a lot more gracefully.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Eric, alongside Taylor, are known for their vocal protest of the work they have to do. When one of Eric's antics potentially cost them their source for fire, everyone downright wishes he was gone. Eric is clearly hurt by this, but it seems he knew he screwed up big, as he spends a few moments trying (and eventually succeeding in fixing their lighter). Knowing that he was already planning on leaving the group to find a way home, and he not made things right in time, he would have had no reason to stay, and more importantly, no one would have bothered stopping him.
  • Les Yay: Taylor and Daley.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: "Jalissa" for Jackson/Melissa, and "Jaylor" for Jackson/Taylor.
  • Tear Jerker: It's a given for a show like this..but a few moments stand out:
    • The group finds a mysterious box on the island, which causes tension with some thinking it could contain a bomb or by some extent, something else. Some fighting leads to the box being dropped and opened. What was inside it? A letter from a soldier on the island who lamented never coming home and he and his team were going to die there. Yikes.
    • Eric secretly prepared to leave the group on his own to find some sort of way to find rescue. He lets out that he wants to go home, he feels like they aren't trying to find a way home and it's getting to him. He just wants to go home.
    • When Abby comes along and shares Eric's sentiment, the group decides to split up in order to search the island and for their missing friends and pilot. The argument that happened beforehand is hard to watch, Daley, the leader at the time, breaks down because she wants everyone to stay in one place, but everyone can't agree with her because it doesn't feel like her way is going to help them escape, Taylor breaks down crying because she can't handle it. The last thing Jackson says to the group that stays behind is chilling, "See you later, if not, Goodbye".
  • Wangst: It being a survivor-like drama, yes.
