• Values Dissonance: The captain worries that the aliens might appear "nice and friendly and polite", but underneath have the "sneaking brutal ferocity of a Japanese." The line was understandable when memories of the attack on Pearl Harbor were still raw, but comes across as bizarrely racist now, when Japanese people fall more in the stereotype of capitalists or nerds. For this reason, references to Japanese were removed in later editions.
