YMMV / Fast & Furious: Supercharged

Go To

  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: Because the ride lifts its content from the Studio Tour sequence, the main part of the Florida attraction, starting after Shaw appears, is only about a minute and a half long. Walking through the often empty queue and watching the pre-show both take more time to get through.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: The main ride in Universal Studio Florida is just the sequence from the Hollywood Studio Tour transplanted into its sister park as a standalone attraction. Fans had an expectation of something like Jaws or Kongfrontation, rides based off of parts of the Studio Tour but greatly expanded upon. Furthermore, unlike the Studio Tour, Supercharged was not limited by the constraints of being part of a tram tour and the motion effects of the party bus could have been ramped up to be a lot more exciting instead of remaining the same as the Hollywood version.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: The queue for the Florida version is much more lauded by Fast & Furious fans than the actual ride, being themed as a garage filled with the cars from the movies and containing tons of references and Easter eggs from both the film franchise and previous Universal Studios attractions. The pre-show is a lot more entertaining too since Ludacris and Jordana Brewster are at least putting some effort in their acting even if they're not part of the ride proper.
  • Narm Charm:
    • Some argue that the acting does help mitigate the ride at least. It also helps that the Fast and Furious series isn't exactly known for its incredible acting.
    • Occasionally, the pre-shows done by park staff include legitimately humorous moments of Deadpan Snarker.
  • Replacement Scrappy: For Disaster!, which in turn replaced Earthquake: The Big One. Most people familiar with Earthquake stated that, even if fans weren't happy with the name change, at least Disaster! was a good replacement that didn't change much, with its added Ham and Cheese making it more enjoyable since it wasn't taking itself seriously. Supercharged, on the other hand, takes itself too seriously to be fun and not seriously enough to be thrilling, and is considered to be a sloppy, boring replacement. It gained notice during the COVID-19 Pandemic when, despite being a relatively new and heavily advertised attraction, it became one of several rides to remain closed initially even as the rest of the park reopened due to having such low popularity that Universal couldn't justify having them reopen.
  • So Bad, It's Good: While riders have polarizing views of this attraction, the ride does have its defenders for this reason. It does try to be entertaining, and quite a few people were amused by Dom hanging off the tiny helicopter.
  • Special Effect Failure:
    • The CGI work leaves a lot to be desired, coming off looking like it came off from a video game. For comparison, Jimmy Fallon's ride looked much better, and that had you leaving Earth at one point. Heck some detractors have even stated that Crossroads, the heavily lambasted video game of the series, looked much more realistic than the ride.
    • When Dom leaps from his car window onto the skids of a passing helicopter, we see that the copter is only slightly bigger than he is. Either Dom suddenly becomes a giant or the helicopter is the size of a go-kart. This isn't helped by the poster showing Dom to be utterly massive when hanging off it by just hugging it with his forearms.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • One thing most people criticize is that, for a series that started off about illegal street racing, which has remained a staple of it even as the films' plots grew increasingly outlandish, that aspect oddly wasn't made to be part of the ride itself. It could've been incorporated into the story, such as the party bus going to a race Dom, Letty, and Roman were participating in and driving alongside the race before Shaw and his men show up to crash it, leading into the chase proper, which would've been truer to the spirit of the franchise. Instead, said race happens afterward and you're just arriving to the afterparty.
    • Likewise a few wonder why it hasn't been updated, considering 1) Owen Shaw becomes an ally in Fate of the Furious which makes the ride's story horrendously outdated, even by the time it opened (Owen was being hospitalized after the events of 6 to which his brother Deckard had tried to avenge him), and 2) Cipher, who was revealed to be the main Big Bad behind Owen and Jakade of Furious 7, would be a much better threat than Owen for the ride since Dom has personal beef with her.
