YMMV / Fast & Furious: Spy Racers

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The show's end credits song, "Chasing Legacy", is catchy and fits the franchise's use of music while still being family-appropriate and embodying the themes of family. Kudos for also remixing the song for Rio, Sahara and Homecoming.
    • The season 2 finale's song, "La Danza" fits the dance party taking place during the ending quite nicely.
  • Gateway Series: Hedrick has stated that the show's purpose is to introduce the franchise to kids in a much more family-friendly manner.
  • Genius Bonus: Frostee calls his bucking the spy plane around a "vomit comet," the nickname for the aircraft that trains astronauts for working in zero-G by moving in a large parabolic arc so they're in freefall on the way down.
    • Palindrome's jacket has the phrases "Live On, O Dog" and "Go Do No Evil". This is a Sub-Genre of palindromes called semordnilap, which are words or phrases that spell different words or phrases backwards.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: While considered at least better than Fast & Furious Crossroads (which isn't saying much, since that game was an Obvious Beta), Rise of SH1FT3R is seen as a bland racing game with nothing to make it stand out from other racing games of its kind.
  • Special Effects Failure: Some of the effects, especially whenever liquid is involved, look shockingly cheap.
    • Some of the car models also look low budget compared to others.
    • Minor characters are sometimes recast as crowd extras. This is noticeable in crowd scenes like the brainwashed mob in the season 2 finale, or whenever they get reused as random goons during Seasons 2 and 3.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: When the show was announced, many had thought this would be the continuing adventures of the characters from the movie in more off the wall scenarios (not like the movies don't do them, but animation would allow a lot more flexibility). However many were disappointed it would be following younger, unrelated protagonists instead.
  • Unexpected Character: Mitch and Moray as playable characters in the video game Rise of SH1FT3R. The former because he's a very minor comic relief character and the latter because he's never portrayed as a racer in the show like he is in the game. The game even uses his henchmen's vehicle as his signature car.
