YMMV / Even For Eternia

Go To

  • Anvilicious:
    • The alliance sidequests are heavy-handed and bleak about how different faction fight each other over minor differences and pursue Secretly Selfish interests rather than their stated motives. The final alliance quest involves an entire family relationship being hopelessly broken beyond repair as a result of their differing beliefs.
    • The theme of Fantastic Racism against the Umbra isn't subtle at all due to how many humans would rather die to Wraiths than accept coexistence with the Umbra. This is made even worse by the fact that anyone can become an Umbra if they're desperate to survive an encounter with a Wraith, meaning they could easily end up in the group they discriminated against.
  • Good Bad Bugs: In the Maze of Algatha, Wolf is forced into a duel with Michael and is the only one who is supposed to get EXP from that duel. However, due to the way optional characters are coded, they also get EXP from that duel.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Despite being the title antagonist, Eternia's relationship with Rubellum is only explored in one brief flashback and their parents barely talk about her at all, making the conflict with her at the end of the game less interesting.
    • Wolf's desire for Umbra supremacy could have made him a villain who betrays the group and leads his own faction against both Rubellum and Rowan. Instead, he never gets to act on these beliefs due to more immediate conflicts.
    • In the Weeping Song sidequest, it's revealed Richard can read the strange symbols that appear during this quest and an earlier quest in Relhall. Despite that, there is no way to have Richard go back and read the Relhall monument, since that room is blocked off forever. This ability of his isn't mentioned in any main story or side content, despite its potential for giving him more development in learning the secrets of the Umbra. Also, Richard's policy of segregating humans and Umbra is never brought up again, despite the fact that he becomes an Umbra. One would think he would revise that policy now that he's in the shoes of the ones it targets.
    • Lilac's delusion over her abusive mother gets no follow up, despite its potential to put her through a few Despair Shifts.
    • Amalia also has the ability to use Transference to look into the minds of others, but story dialogue doesn't account for optional party members, so her ability is never further explored.
