YMMV / Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: The game's premise of Mizrabel being in Wasteland becomes sadly more relevant after the remake of Castle of Illusion was delisted because of Sega's contract ending. Thankfully it was only temporary.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: A common complaint about this game, having only three 4-stage levels and three boss fights. The cover art indicates that a boss fight against Ursula and a fourth level (the North Wing of the castle) based around Wonderland were planned but never ended up being utilized.
  • Padding: It's been suspected that the paint/thinner mechanics add to this, as the gameplay has to pause constantly while Mickey's animation for painting and thinning is being done.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: When viewed as the "follow-up" to its companion game Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, this was far better received, and is on par with the first game in terms of reception. That said, there's still a lot of room for improvement.
  • That One Level: You'll have a lot of fun until you reach Under The Sea in the third world. Not only is the level under the sea, but also has Goddamned Bats and Demonic Spiders; combine that with the underwater floaty jumps that screw up your timing and you get one hell of a warzone.
    • Though these wouldn't be so bad if the game either saved after a rescuing a character and collecting quest items that appear in the levels or at least had a midway point marker that saved your progress at least, rather than only saving after clearing long screens, it's really bad for those who want to hundred percent the game, because should you die after collecting a quest item or saving a character but have yet to get to the next screen you'll have to go back to where you found them and collect/save them again, and as stated above this especially bad during the Under the Sea part of the game.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Briefly during her first appearance, Mizrabel turns into Queen Grimhilde (in both her normal appearance and as an old hag), Scar, Cruella De Vil, Hades, and Gaston. She never takes any of these forms during her boss fight, nor do you encounter any of these characters in the game.
