YMMV / Ed Eddn Eddy S 4 E 1 If It Smells Like An Ed

Back to the main HERE!

  • Fanon Discontinuity: Easily the most controversial episode of the series, if only because of how needlessly cruel Jimmy ends up being to Ed and Edd and the hell he puts them through, and many fans have straight-up disowned it as a result.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Despite any vague implications concerning Plank's sentience he's always the one to make Johnny aware of events that no one else sees. One could wonder how things could have played out when Johnny was being abducted by Jimmy, since Plank would have seen him when it was happening.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Every horrible thing that happens to Jimmy before and after this episode will likely become more amusing to watch (even when he doesn't deserve it) if this episode causes you to swear eternal hatred for him.
    • If one watches "Cry Ed", something as small as a clothespin is strong enough to break Jimmy's foot. Something like a banana peel would be considered extremely painful for him.
  • It Was His Sled: Jimmy was behind the whole thing as an elaborate scheme to get back at Eddy for giving him a wedgie.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Jimmy shows a side that has proven to be much too dark for many viewers, but nobody likes to be publicly humiliated.
  • Misaimed Fandom: With a controversial episode like this, it's not surprising.
    • While Ed and Edd didn't deserve to be punished, some fans see Eddy as a saint who did nothing wrong to warrant the Humiliation Conga Jimmy put him and his friends through.
    • Some fans also believed that Jimmy deserved to be wedgied by Eddy, despite the former actually trying to be friendly towards the Eds.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The idea of Jimmy getting revenge on Eddy by devising a wonderfully complex plan plus the detective elements is actually a good concept. Sadly, it ends up bombing as spectacularly as it does due to his revenge going too far plus the fact that all three of the Eds end up paying the price when the worst thing Ed and Edd ended up doing was simply sticking by Eddy's side.

  • The Woobie: As mentioned above, Ed and Edd are forced to share the blame for Eddy setting Jimmy off, simply for standing by Eddy's side.
