• Accidental Innuendo: All the talk about there being a "serial toucher" sounds very unfortunate if taken out of context.
• Franchise Original Sin: Despite being the first episode, it also contains the first case of a Yank the Dog's Chain ending for the Eds. The major difference is this time, the Eds fully deserved it for torturing Jonny and scamming the kids out of their money, and it wasn't as overly harsh as latter cases would end up being. Later episodes would pull this trope even when the Eds didn't deserve it, and often go way overboard with the Eds getting their punishment.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Eddy's final line, which doubles as an Establishing Series Moment, is "A little childhood trauma builds character." Flash forward to the Grand Finale, where we learn that Eddy's brother quite literally beat this idea into him through years of physical bullying.
• Memetic Mutation:
  • Double D's unusual walk-up sound for his doorbell has been remixed many times as "Double D's epic doorbell."
  • "cranky because youre hongry arent you"^ExplanationA reply◊ (with that exact spelling) that a 4chan user made in response to an aggressive AMA post from someone who'd been eating only 800 calories a day for two weeks, paired with a screencap from this episode depicting Eddy making a smug face while subjecting Plank to water torture. The reply became a popular subject of parody, using it as a response to a number of other situations (with "hongry" replaced with something relevant to what one is replying to) and led to the screencap becoming widely associated with the quote.
