The CD by Patti Smith

  • Covered Up: An unusual example. "Because The Night" is more associated with Patti Smith than Bruce Springsteen, who wrote it, then gifted it to Smith. She then rewrote some of the verses, so they are officially credited as co-writers. (To make things even more confusing, when singing it live Smith and Springsteen occasionally sing the other's lyrics, or even blend the two.)

The RPG Maker game

  • Angst? What Angst?: Despite being mutilated by the killer, Olie, Totl and Mugwort seem rather well adjusted when Easter encounters them in the asylum. Turns out the incident happened when they were children, so they had more time to cope with their situations.
  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: A lot of people felt bad for Nester when he was killed in the True Ending, due to the fact that he seemed to be trying to redeem himself but was killed before he could.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Did Easter repress the memory of burning Mugwort's tongue and indirectly causing Olie and Totl to lose their eyes and ears respectively because part of him felt guilty about it, as Nester claims?
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • Nester finally standing up to Easter in the insane asylum. Especially if you aim for the Retribution Ending.
    • Monte finally getting his comeuppance by a cuckold Richard.
    • Considering how much of a vile little shit Easter actually is, some see the Retribution Ending (Nester mutilates him like he'd done to his friends) and the True Ending (he's lobotomized by the doctors) as fitting punishments for all he's done.
  • Cry for the Devil: Even though Easter was cruel and spiteful guy who had it coming, some feel bad for his fate in the endings, considering how utterly horrifying it is.
  • Complete Monster: Easter Mitchour is a seemingly soft-spoken teen who turns to violence to alleviate his repressed hatred, beginning by manipulating his little brother into getting sexually abused by their father. Resenting his friends for having better lives than him, he decides to ruin them by forcing one to be stuck in the sewers for a day, tricking another into drinking bleach and revealing another's father about his mother's infidelity.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Easter has plenty of this with Totl and Mugwort. Totl protected Easter from bullies since they were kids and calls himself "his knight in shining armor". While Mugwort is very loyal and protective of Easter, trying to make him smile with his antics. Interestingly, he doesn't have much interactions with Olie, the girly one of the group.
    • After showing his true colors, Easter admits that Nester is the only person he gives a damn about. He also enjoyed the sight of him being raped by their father a little too much...
  • Jerkass Woobie: The Mitchour brothers, depending of who's more sympathetic to you.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Monte raping Nester as punishment for shoplifting. And if that wasn’t enough, then him sexually abusing Easter for years definitely was.
    • Admittedly, he crossed this long ago, when he tricked Nester into being raped by Monte and orchestrating the latter's death, but the defining moment is Easter mutilating his friends (indirectly in Totl and Olie's cases) and murdering Nester in the True Ending.
  • Squick:
    • The scene Easter tricks Mugwort into drinking bleach, culminating with him puking blood all over his birthday cake and the guests's faces.
    • Monte sexually abusing his son Nester.
    • The masked man cutting Totl's ears, especially because you can see it happening.
    • Richard tearing Olie's eyes off as a child just for being in the wrong place in the wrong time.
    • Totl getting stuck in the sewers and forced to eat a dead rat to survive. And then losing his ears while trying to free himself.
    • Nester shoving his fist on Easter's rectum as punishment for the incident at Monte Arcade. We don't see it happening, but after the deed is done, the kitchen sink is covered in blood.
  • The Woobie: Mugwort, Olie and Totl. They cared deeply about Easter, even giving their lives for him, only to be horribly mutilated for things that were out of their control.
