YMMV / Dragon Ball Legends

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo:
    • "smash" is used quite a lot, making Shallot say words that make him sound like a sexual deviant.
Bulma: "Shallot said he'd come back after smashing Freeza".
    • When PUR Cell (Perfect Form) is about to trigger his Suicide Attack, he yells "I'm gonna blow!" in a somewhat suggestive manner, with some people couldn't help but think about NSFW videos and the male's tendencies to over-act when they reach their limit.
  • Awesome Art: The characters' card artwork have been praised for being very stylistic, stating they are even better than Dokkan's artwork.
  • Awesome Music
    • The increible Opening Theme of the game, isn't just a spectacle in the animation department but also in the music! Just building more and more as the fight grows in scale, and when the guitar riff kicks in; glorious! It also has a version for PVP battles.
    • The Main Menu theme. Unlike the opening theme, this one is an orchestral wonder, preparing you for a great adventure that at times can sound like something straight out of Super Mario Galaxy.
    • Shallot may not have a dedicated theme, but the song playing the first time he went Super Saiyan can be pretty much taken as a theme for him at this point, as fully stood in the brain of many players.
    • Vegito seems to be a popular character for events in the game. He has a calmingly heroic theme that plays when in his Base form. With the Super Vegito version of the song increasing the speed and intensity, as to showcase that Vegito is enjoying the fight. However Vegito Blue has a brand new theme that sounds more intense as in the middle of a fight that must be win at any cost, currently concluding on Ultra Vegito Blue's Theme as part of 8th Anniversary events! This now sounds like the battle is close to an end with its heroism in full display.
    • The theme for SSJ4 Goku & Vegeta truly has a full blown intensity, so you better wish to get this one in PVP!
  • Badass Decay: People have noticed how much the quality of Zenkais have degraded ever since Super Saiyan 2 Gohan (Youth), Super Saiyan 3 Goku, and Super Saiyan Bardock accidentally broke the meta. Most modern-Zenkais pretty much exists to give older units stat boosts and nothing else, as their upgraded kits and additional passives usually don't add enough to make them stand out in the current PvP scene (or in RED Fusion Android #13's and PUR SSB Vegeta's case, borderline useless). To make things more frustrating, people have scratch their heads trying to find out the thought process Dimps took to somehow make Legends Limited BLU Super Saiyan Blue Vegito's Zenkai underwhelming, while also making the Day 1 SPARKING GRN Piccolo rather impressive back to back.
  • Character Rerailment: Gameplay example. Despite Shallot being well liked in the community, his gameplay standing is extremely underwhelming due to him being stuck as a HERO class rarity character, not helped by Serial Escalation making any form lower than Super Saiyan God useless. The May 2023 update gave Shallot a much needed boost, raising him to SPARKING making him complacent with other high-tiered SPARKING units, as well as making each transformation viable in their own way, making it so that in PvP, you'll see people going in with Super Saiyan 3 Shallot or lower rather than defaulting to his latest God form.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome:
    • Thinking about going competitive in Ranked PVP? Hope you have good counters to the ungodly amount of teams built around ULTRAS, Movie Sagas, or Mono-BLU/PUR you'll encounter online.
    • Another Cheese Strategy you'll see online is people bringing HERO Hercule on their teams, since not only can he inflict the entire enemy team with Poison and Paralysis just by existing, his Main Ability disables tag-outs for 10 counts, more than enough time for a higher rarity card to finish the job.
    • This is supposedly enforced by the developers themselves, as they stated they wanted the units to dictate PvP wins, not skill, with SSBKK and Ultra Instinct Goku being the culmination of that mentality with how much priority they have over every other fighter.
  • Dueling Games: Speaking of Dokkan Battle, both it and Legends have slowly gained a friendly rivalry between each other for being the biggest Dragon Ball games on mobile device markets.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: In story mode, Turles has been well received with a lot of fan art of him and Shallot. People were disappointed Giblet killed him after he received some Character Development.
  • Fridge Horror: Shallot and Giblet come from the distant past, from Planet Sadala. Considering how Sadala is fated to be destroyed by a civil war, it ultimately gives both characters a sense of dread when they return to their timeline.
  • Funny Moments: The 2024 April Fools event, which puts Raditz in a "Groundhog Day" Loop... cursed to forever fight the iconic Farmer with a Shotgun. And they even made him the Raid Boss for that day!
  • Good Bad Bugs: The Float-Step trick was something a lot of people used for offline events (especially the Brutal Bonus Levels) that was a complete A.I. Breaker, easily performed by briefly dropping your combo, thus forcibly triggering an effect or allowing your cards time to reload, before continuing on laying the beating. Unfortunately, the developers caught on to this, as version 4.7.0 made it so that the AI instantly responds to any dropped combo by immediately vanishing out of the way.
  • Growing the Beard: Though still being able to support itself, those who played Legends since launch could not ignore some of the glaring oversights the game has, the most egregious being the unbalanced nature of Legends Limited and Zenkai characters, combined with the unsettling amount of favoritism towards paid users over Free-to-Play users, and missing or under-utilized mechanics that made people turn to Dokkan for their user-friendliness. However, many agree that Legends has started to turn things around by Year 3, going non-stop with numerous Quality of Life updates, rebalancing gameplay and characters, added focus on Free-to-Play rewards, and following up on numerous user feedback, eventually leading to a complete overhaul for the 2021 Legends Festival, making Dragon Ball Legends a much more standout game that can hold its ground against other Gacha games with a PvP scene.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • #17 and #18, shortly after Shallot allies with them, are shown to care very much about #16's whereabouts and condition, making it their mission to find him under the basis he's considered by both to be a good friend. And when they do initially find him again, they are visibly relieved. Even more heartwarming considering that all three come from the era not long after they started their search for Goku, highlighting that despite the fact their time together was short, they quickly became True Companions with the Gentle Giant. Similarly, the androids get this with Shallot as well, regardless of how short their time was.
    • Shortly after a Post Cell Games Gohan confessed to Zahha that he is hoping to run into some iteration of his dad, Goku immediately pops by them to come say hi, regardless of the fact he's been instructed to stay out of sight. Bringing much needed reassurance to Gohan that his dad wouldn't stay dead forever as he feared.
  • High-Tier Scrappy:
    • When Purple Super Saiyan Broly first arrived in the game, he single-handedly managed to oppress the Pv P metagame for a year due to the fact that he's the first character to be able to nullify type-disadvantage, rendering even YEL enemies unable to tank his attacks. Additionally, his green card also reduces the enemy's Ki while also forcefully switching the enemy out, which could potentially send away unfavorable matchups. When paired with Super Saiyan Bardock (who supports Super Saiyan teams upon switching out which includes Broly himself) and Super Gogeta (who can deal with YEL enemies), together they make a fearsome Holy Trinity that made for the most devastating combo in the meta and for a while, owning three of them is usually enough to destroy online players. Only through the through the power creep of multiple Legends Limited units does their presence eventually wane out of the meta. Ironically though, Broly's Zenkai Awakening can actually be considered to be the opposite side of the trope as most players felt that his Zenkai is comparatively underwhelming when compared to other more busted ones such as LF SS2 Gohan or LF Beerus.
    • Hybrid Saiyans are considered to be the absolute bane of Pv P, as all of the units synergize insanely well together on top of many of them having rather beefy Passives and Main Skills, making them incredibly resilient, insanely powerful and chock full of quick draw times. The Legends Limited characters like Future Gohan and Super Saiyan Youth Gohan are bad enough, but the absolute worst of it is Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, who has a Zenkai on top of being a Legends Limited character. Their reputation is so bad, that many people were quick to call fowl on the developers whenever they announce any new Gohan unit, regardless of which Signature Scene he comes from.
    • Android #18 YEL also gets a lot of heat ever since her Zenkai came out, which allowed her to make any Saiyan character (which is a massive chunk of the game) into absolute jokes due to the boosts she gets when facing any one of them on top of being able to stack her damage output with each Strike Arts used.
    • Despite his bad first impression in Reveals & Stuff, ULTRA Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken Goku is seen as the biggest scrappy in PvP matches. Unlike the previous ULTRA Super Gogeta, who while powerful can still be countered, SSBKK is lock-down and punish incarnate. He has lightning fast card draw speed, can seal all of your Strike cards every time he tags in or you tag out, has a Main ability that heals way too much health, hits like a truck, can restore Vanish in a blink of an eye, and every time he evades an attack, he can randomly destroy one of your cards in hand. Keep in mind, this is the same Goku that got curb-stomped by Jiren. Many has said they would much rather face a Z7 SS2 Gohan in his prime than deal with another team using SSBKK, because at least Gohan's buffs were counterable, where as SSBKK seems like he was purposefully designed to have top-priority in matches no matter what.
    • Ultra Instinct Goku was a character everyone was expecting, but quickly became the character no one wanted to use or fight against shortly after his release simply on the grounds of being too defensively strong. He can dodge and counter most normal attacks, can send enemies flying with his cover change while locking the enemy team out of using theirs, and he gains Endurance as the last-man standing. However, he also egregiously inspired a new meta where players would stand around for a full minute (or even longer) doing nothing as they wait for the opponent to make the first move, making PvP matches even more drawn out and tiresome than ever before while punishing the more aggressive playstyles.
    • Android 17 & 18 was a tag unit not many people were expecting for a Legends Limited, but as soon as they were released, all hell broke loose. Take everything annoying regarding YEL #18's Zenkai and crank it up even further with their unfair skills designed to shut the opponent down no matter what. Trying to hit them with a tackle? #17 can just flick a Ki blast towards your way and hit you with a combo. Want to dodge an attack? #18 will brush her hair and drain your Vanishing Gauge in an instant. Think you got them on the ropes with a Yellow Ki Card? Surprise! Their Super Attack has Blast Armor! And don't even think about using Future Gohan or Sword of Hope Trunks to tank a killing blow. All of their attacks can bypass Endurance Skills like paper. Oh, and #17 can easily heal back any damage you inflict on them too thanks to his Healing Shiv properties. Have fun!
    • Despite many people praising Legends for being the only Dragon Ball game to have playable Beast Gohan for the longest time, his existence only continued to validate everyone's fears regarding Hybrid Saiyans having way too high of an advantage in the meta. During combat, Gohan fills a unique gauge that, when topped, enhances his Green Special and Blue Super Arts by giving him extra damage boosts, nullify type disadvantages and special cover changes, and even destroy the enemy's hand. Here's the problem: He starts every match with a full unique gauge, so if he's lucky to start the battle with a Green Special Arts card on hand, he can instantly cripple the opponent by killing their hand before the count goes down by 1. People have also complained that his nullification buffs last way too long, clocking in at 15 counts when most only have their nullifications for no more than 10. He also has infinite use of special cover changes against Strikes and Blast combos, allowing him to shut down any combo while on standby. Want to take him out immediately with a Rising Rush? Too bad; he gains Endurance upon its activation, making him an unstoppable wall on top of being an unfair heavy hitter.
    • You wouldn't expect Dragon Ball Super Pan of all people to end up on this list, but having Pan show up on any team is enough to make anyone quiver in fear. Having cover change against Strike Arts is nothing new, but Pan can easily bounce back from any attack inflicted on her, healing back health and nullifying downgrades while constantly draining her opponent's Ki down to 0 every time. Her existence alone is also capable of reducing the power behind your attacks, and every use of her Green Special Arts will ensure that you won't be able to passively restore Ki while taking down a huge chunk of it. Meanwhile, Pan's Blue Super Move Arts can net her an extra Dragon Ball upon activation, and can reduce the subcounts of her own teammates, allowing her to bring in the big guns to tear you asunder in your weakened state.
    • In offline battles against AI opponents, ULTRA Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta is an absolute monster that can effortlessly turn the tide of any battle and can make any enemy yours to humiliate however you wish. In PvP, Gogeta is seen as a braindead character who takes zero skill to use thanks to his Unique Gauge allowing him to shut down and counter every Ki-attack in the game even in hitstun. His massive regenerative abilities combined with being able to destroy one of your Dragon Balls upon filling his Unique Gauge as well as destroy all of your cards upon using his Main Ability makes him extremely deadly and easily makes matches one-sided. Combine him with the above-mentioned Pan and Beast Gohan units and get ready to ruin the online experience for everyone due to their abnormally high priority in matches.
    • ULTRA. Super. Saiyan. Blue. Vegito. Let's take the base kit of a Legends Limited character that was already infamous for delivering a nigh-unbreakable Cycle of Hurting and make his kit absolutely cracked even by ULTRA unit standards. Aside from having Cover Change counters against both Strikes and Blasts, his fast-acting Green Special Card is capable of doing the exact same thing while chaining into every other combat skill he has, his Ultimate Arts can be overclocked to deal splash damage to the entire enemy team, and for good measure, on tag in, he seals all of your Supers, Rising Rushes, and on first time, drains your Vanishing Gauge for no other reason than for him to go "screw you and your entire existence" with little push-back. And his constantly filling Unique Gauge means you can't break his combos either since it allows him to disable Cover Change counters. Think you got him pinned? He'll casually recover a third of his health and nullify unfavorable element factors, too. There's a reason why people pointed to him as the exact moment PvP became downright unplayable.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Shallot was the name of a Saiyan in Dragon Ball Zero by Toyotarō.
    • A similar design to Shallot was done by Karoine for her doujinshi Dragon Ball Centuries, a sequel to Dragon Ball GT: A Hero's Legacy.
    • After her debuut in Dragon Ball Super, Caulifla received a lot of fan art that either paired her with other Saiyan women like Selypar/Fasha or shipped her with Goku to make Chichi angry. In the story mode, Caulifla ends up meeting both, and befriends the latter.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Poor Legends Limited Super Saiyan 3 Goku (Wrath of the Dragon). He has an impressive kit, can dish out major damage, can shut down cover changing units, was from one of the more iconic Dragon Ball Z movies, and was massively hyped up by Legends YouTuber Raiyuden... but his Ultimate Arts animations are ripped directly from a special summoning animation you could get, so he was quickly written off as a cheap cash grab that further drags down the already mediocre 4th Anniversary.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • I'm gay! (Shallot is supposed to be saying "I'm game!", but everyone mishears it)
    • Almost every fanart of Shallot will focus on his butt-flap.

  • Moment of Awesome: Vegeta going down against Frieza isn't to be unexpected, it is how he was offed the first time around after all, but Nappa lasting to that point was definitely a curveball. He becomes strong enough to take on the entire Ginyu Force by himself at once, having his Dying Moment of Awesome as he takes them all out along with himself in a final blaze of glory.
    • This and the Tear Jerker below become one when the sacrifices of both Nappa and Vegeta finally push Shallot past his breaking point, an intense music track pumping in as he finally ascends to Super Saiyan. As Vegeta tells him while he lays dying, the Saiyans who lived on beyond Sadala lost their pride and potential when they became little more than mercenaries for Frieza and his army, but Shallot, a Saiyan who predated that, was "untainted" by their disgrace. As Shallot roars back to action, the faded images of Vegeta and Nappa behind him, Shallot declares he is going to crush Frieza — to avenge the pride of the entire Saiyan race.
  • Narm:
    • Shallot's design has been praised by many in the Dragon Ball community for Akira Toriyama's return to traditional Saiyan aesthetic traits, like defined muscles and a monkey tail. However, the fact he has the equivalent of a butt-flap for where his tail is has left people either giggling or finding that kind of attractive.
    • The Saiyan in Red's name, Giblet, is considered rather silly by part of the fanbase, expecially for a character that is quite serious. Doesn't help that his name has a wrong translation, as he should be named Ciboulette to fit the Edible Theme Naming.
  • Padding: Part 5 is blatantly padding the game, the main plot and its mysteries takes a back seat to finding Kale, which takes up about 4 of the 6 books in the Part. Androids 14 and 15 appear randomly, but serve no purpose other than to fight with no real dialogue, Ribrianne, Kakunsa and Rozie further distract from the main plot. And by the time a big revelation takes place, the part's almost at its end point. There's plenty of Bait-and-Switch, and many battles that don't have much to do with what's going on. The list goes on and on. Thankfully, it's one of the shorter parts.
  • Porting Disaster: In April 2023, Legends was chosen as one of the games playable on PC through Google's Play Games app. The main problem that kills this version is that the game is still very much designed with touch-screen controls in mind, meaning very awkward mouse motions are required to try and play the game. Combining the lack of keyboard/controller support with the game still keeping the same portrait aspect ration as the original version and you got a port that worsens the game's pre-existing frustrating issues.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • Many of the step-up banner type of summons have units that are locked behind an unfeatured pool of Sparking ticket summons meaning that if you a chance even pull one copy, you must spend thousands, perhaps even tens of thousands of crystals as just getting one ticket cost a lot of your hard earned crystals. This is eventually rectified by allowing such units to be summoned on the step-up banner albeit at an abysmally low 0.25% chancenote  compared to the standard 1% chance of a featured Sparking character.
    • The method to obtain the Dragon Balls to summon Shenron is such a tedious and complicated process that it's far more trouble than its worth. To collect the Dragon Balls, you must scan a QR code from one of your friends (as in friends on your account's friends list), but each one of them can only be scanned once and you can only scan codes 4 times per day. Furthermore, such codes expire after 5 minutes of generating them and they're restricted to a specific region, so trying to get Dragon Balls where the game is obscure can prove very difficult. Scanning codes also only gives a chance of obtaining a Dragon Ball, otherwise the player gains 100 to 500 Chrono Crystals. Finally getting all the Balls to summon Shenron only rewards players with a choice of either a "Gentleman's Magazine", Zeni, or 1,000 Chrono Crystals.
    • While initially not this trope, the Adventure System starts to become a big Scrappy Mechanic as it becomes more and more important over time. Before that, Adventuring is just another layer of gameplay where you send some of your characters away for a decent amount of Zennies and Z-Souls after some time. All that's good, however later Adventure eventually becomes required to get the medal items needed to exchange many of the desired items such as the Ultra-Space Time ticket, forcing players to repeatedly login to collect the items before sending them for another adventure every hour, which gets rather tedious. In one instance, to get the ticket needed for a guaranteed Sparking in the Ultra-Space Time ticket summon, you need to gather at least 600,000 New Year cakes and the average Cake you get with each adventure is approximately 750, so you need like 800 adventures to get the full amount. And since you can only do 5 jobs at a time, you need to do at least 40 adventures a day before the campaign ends since it lasts 20 days and assuming you do the 1-hour adventure, that means you need to be able to log in at least 10 times everyday. Frankly it just becomes such a hassle with many players either too busy or just flat-out gave up on doing this.
    • The Rising Rush was meant to be a comeback mechanic that can easily turn the tide of battle, but over time, the community have labeled it as an absolute Game-Breaker that can make matches even more one-sided. While the rates of Dragon Ball Art cards are inconsistent between matches, it doesn't matter since so many units have card draw speed boosts that most players can easily get a Rush almost immediately after the match starts, and some can even pull off up to three Rushes in one match. While the developers have said they are looking to re-work the Rising Rush system to be less game-breaking, said announcement was last brought up in Legends Festival 2021, and the lack of communication on that end has the player base accuse Toshi of being a Lying Creator.
    • For no reason, if your Chrono Crystal count is higher than 20k, then you cannot gain any more Chrono Crystals through Exchange Shop events, meaning those trying to keep a stockpile on hand would need to waste it on a summon banner or buy Chrono Crystals with microtransactions.
    • Hyperdimensional Co-Op is on paper an interesting game mode, but it was quickly met with scorn due to these factors: The Damage-Sponge Boss nature of the enemies, the unbalanced damage they deal, and the sheer stupidity of other players (To get an idea of how bad it is, take a shot every time you encounter someone in matchmaking with an underleveled or irrelevant character, take an extra shot for every RoF Super Saiyan Blue Goku, Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta, Shallot, or Ultra Instinct Goku you see. Your liver will hate you). The recent overhaul, while fixing the issue with Dual Rising Rush being less luck-based, adds even more issues with enemies cycling attributes, the added bonus missions with strict time limits, and the bosses now having a bind attack that drains your health every second you're trapped that your partner will, ten times out of ten, not help you out on until you are at 1 HP. The fact that the developers are trying to force this game mode into relevancy with Zenkai missions and relocating F2P Z-Power and Platinum Equipment to Co-Op stage rewards has added nothing but frustration among the playerbase, with many wondering what is Dimps' damage.
    • In Late August 2023, Legends overhauled their matchmaking system to instead be more structured in skill-based matchmaking similar to other competitive games like FighterZ or Xenoverse. However, those games are balanced, so introducing a skill-based matchmaking system makes sense. Legends is a gacha game, and as noted above in Complacent Gaming Syndrome, balance is the last thing the developers are aiming for. This means that the game will use vague numbers such as BR points and win percentage/streaks to determine which opponents players will get matched up with, resulting in 99% of matches being against whales or bots using the same combination of ULTRA SSB Vegito, Legends Limited Goku & Frieza, ULTRA Goku Black Rose or a fully Zenkai'd Legends Limited Sword of Hope Trunks every time. Many players saw this as the breaking point as using any lower-than optimal team or free units is an instant death sentence, causing a lot of people to admit that this is the point where they quit Legends for good.
  • Special Effect Failure:
    • Half-Corrupted Fusion Zamasu is rife with this, as thanks to his larger-than-average frame and hulking purple arm that's bigger than his body, every animation that revolves around characters clashing usually results in Zamasu clipping through everyone and everything. You can see it for yourself here.
    • ULTRA Omega Shenron's Ki-Blast animation is noticeably scrunched up compared to his other animations. That's because Dimps reused ULTRA Super Saiyan Goku's animations for Shenron, with mixed results.
    • Legends Limited Super Saiyan Future Gohan only has one arm rendered, and for the most part, the developers did all that they could to ensure that he'll never use his missing limb in combat... but that still doesn't protect him from the odd moment for certain scripted Ultimate Arts where Gohan will use his left arm to try and strike the opponent despite it not existing.
  • Spoiled by the Format: In the story, if the win condition is ever "Get [X]'s health to [X]% or below", don't expect a win for Shallot (Or at least an immediate win) for the plot, especially if it's at the very end of a Part such as the battles with the Saiyan in Red/Giblet.
  • Tainted by the Preview:
    • Legends Limited Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black, who had an unimpressive kit that made him immediately outclassed even on release, and his Ultimate Arts Ultra Divine Dance is just his RED variant's Violent Fierce God Slicer but with different camera shots and pacing. He does have his fans, however, and people hope that he'll get a Zenkai or Platinum Equipment in order to fix his glaring issues.
    • ULTRA SSBKK Goku fell into this hard when he was first announced, as many not only took notice at how his animations are only slightly modified from the already existing Future Saga SSB Goku and PUR SSB Goku/Vegeta tag unitnote, but also scratched their heads over how a Goku from the time he got utterly sacked by Jiren is considered worthy of an ULTRA rarity card.
    • ULTRA Kid Buu, while a neat addition to the Majin Buu Saga celebration line up (as well as another mark against Dokkan Battle, which failed to give Kid Buu the LR treatment), was met with skepticism on announcement due to his art lacking any animation compared to other ULTRA rarity cards, looking instead more like a F2P SPARKING card obtained from a Fierce Battle event, as well as the decision by the developers to not make a Reveals & Stuff dedicated to his abilities, delegating him to a simple text post on the official site instead.
  • Tear Jerker: Nappa and Vegeta's deaths during the climax of Book 2, after having spent nearly the entire story up to that point building a brotherly bond with Shallot, sacrificing themselves to protect him.
  • That One Boss: "Fierce Battle! The Legacy of Goku" Battle 9, which is a Vegeta that transforms into Majin Vegeta as its "Break!" mechanic. While regular Vegeta, Final Form Frieza, Kid Buu, Beerus and Golden Frieza are tough opponents, Majin Vegeta threw many players for a loop. This is because of his two special attacks; one has Vegeta lay his hands on his opponent and blasts them, dealing incredible damage, and the other doesn't deal damage but causes you to lose all of your cards as well as suffer a debuff. Even with the freebie Super Saiyan 2 Goku you get prior to this, the battle is insanely tough if you don't have decent BLU cards.
  • That One Sidequest: Getting red slots on equipments (which always boasts the best bonuses) is a tedious task purposely designed to drain you of your energy, skip tickets, slot erasers, and equipment space (since the first slot cannot be rerolled). Unfortunately, you will need to suffer through them if you want the best stat boosts, as most characters depend on them to pick up the slack on some of their shortcomings, even more so if they've been out of the meta for a while.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: One of the biggest problems people bring up with the game is Legends' tendency to "fix" things that weren't broken, such as removing additional chances to gain free Chrono Crystals from shops, events, mission rewards and exchange shops, lowering drop rates of Raid Medals and locking that behind required premium units (usually those introduced in recent banners), and, as of Version 4.7.0, removing the simple-yet-effective Float Step tactic with the contested Quick Dash/Attack move. It got worse when they started removing F2P Unit's Z-Powers from the exchange shop and moved it across Hyperdimensional Co-Op rewards and Full Power Battles (which are both already poorly designed game modes) along with Platinum Equipment. It's gotten to the point where the people accuse the development team of not even testing the game they're making.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: In story mode:
    • Turles being killed off by Giblet after receiving some decent Character Development had many people call foul on the writing staff, as they wanted to see more of him.
    • Raditz. Despite his massive importance in Dragon Ball's story, he is merely characterized as The Brute for Shallot to work towards beating, and is killed off a mere five chapters in, with no meaningful interaction in any way, not even with Nappa and Vegeta, who were both on the same planet doing their own thing, or with Gohan and Piccolo, who he was responsible for bringing them together.
    • Zangya wasn't adapted for the Cell story arc to help Bojack, while Trouser (Salza) was so he could help Cooler. By the time she is introduced to help her boss, she is quickly disposed off like in the source material with no possible expansion to her character.
    • Speaking of Cooler, he's suffers a lot of Flanderization in the story, lacking his Benevolent Boss and Affably Evil tendencies and instead being so caught up with his Fantastic Racism that even Bardock takes issue with just how much his speech is littered with "monkeys" and "apes", and he ends up being unceremoniously killed by Cell when he refuses to stay down.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Two of the early revealed characters to be in the game included Pikkon and Tao Pai Pai, one being a filler character in the anime and one movie, and the other being one of the first few enemies in original Dragon Ball, neither of whom are particularly relevant anymore, or get in a lot of games. Incidentally, Tao was a niche request for a spot in FighterZ during its development, and ended up being the only character officially said not to be included.
    • Future Mai took many by surprise, as she is overall an ordinary human with no training in martial arts like Videl or Mister Satan, she just has some energy guns. She was a playable character in Heroes, though.
    • Magenta being a headlining unit for Part 2 of the 5th Anniversary was not a character many expected, as while he is the Big Bad of Super Hero, he also lacked any physical combat showcase outside of his muscle suit and was quickly given an Undignified Death courtesy of Dr. Hedo's poison wasp. Many suspected the only reason he was brought in is to provide a vehicle for Cell Max to make an appearance in-game, given he has the same post-death Counter-Attack conditions as Tapion (Hirudegarn).
    • Unlike other Dragon Ball games, Legends didn't have much in the way of What If? characters outside of the game originals added for the main quest mode... until Legends Festival 2023 gave us a combination Goku & Bardock unit that released alongside an original story event where they team up to fight Frieza on Earth in an alternate take on the Planet Namek Saga.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The game has very impressive 3D graphics, not just for a mobile game, but also commonly noted to be better than Xenoverse. Not only do they abandon the unpopular overly shiny shader in favour of the more anime styled Cel shading, but several models have been noticed to be more polished and more expressive than their console counterparts.
