YMMV / Dragon Ball: Fusions

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The game is full of awesome music:
    • The final boss theme.
    • The world Tournament battle theme, which is a good thing as you'll be hearing it a lot if you decide to take on the 100-Man Challenge.
  • Complete Monster:
    • Frieza and Cell prove to be just as monstrous as they are in canon. When Frieza is freed from hell by Tekka and his team, Frieza orders The Ginyu Force to kill them for no reason. When Tekka's team comes across Cell, Cell immediately tries to kill the group to lure out Goku for the purpose of fighting him. Later, the heroes find out that Frieza and Cell have joined Pinich's team for the purpose of manipulating him into performing the Ultra Fusion. Frieza and Cell then take over the fusion before attempting to destroy the Timespace Rift and everybody in it as Ultra Pinich, only stopped due to Beerus and Whis. The two then flee, opening up a portal to hell to create more chaos. They later escape to the real world in an attempt to destroy the entire galaxy.
    • Zamasu is an apprentice Supreme Kai who stole the body of Goku to become Goku Black so that he could carry out his crusade to purge all mortals from reality, starting with Future Trunks's timeline. Upon discovering the Timespace Rift that allowed him to access all timespaces, he began cleansing them one-by-one and making them disappear. Zamasu also recruited many alternate versions of Zamasus from different timespaces, where he came very close to wiping out all life across reality.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Some of the fusion characters became beloved for either concept or design, with Whirus, the fusion of Beerus and Whis, being one of the prominent examples. Karoly Black, the fusion of Goku Black and Broly, is also quite liked, another special mention goes to Android 1718 (who is the EX-Fusion of Androids 17 and 18) who's also surprisingly popular for being a Gender Bender fusion that's considered to be done right without veering into Unfortunate Implications territory.
    • Some of the generic fighters have also managed to achieve this through their designs and/or backstories, with there even being a few scattered pieces of fanart of them.
  • Game-Breaker: If you download the game patch at the beginning of the game, you get Trunks (the Dragon Ball Super version), his Super Saiyan form, Goku Black, his Super Saiyan Rosé form, Merged Zamasu, and Super Saiyan Blue Vegito. Oh, and Zamasu.
  • Moe: Several of the female fusions but special mentions goes to Pandel, the EX Fusion of Videl and Pan who, with her frilly clothing, pretty bows and twin-tails is essentially the exact opposite of her Fusees in terms of fashion sense and is downright adorable.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Some of the fusions definitely qualify, but Dodobon, Zarbon and Dodoria's fusion is terrifying.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: There are a total of 111 canon characters to hunt for including the new characters for the game as well as every single variation of most major characters in the entirety of Dragon Ball Z and a host of those from both Super and the original series. To obtain nearly all of them though requires you first unlock the ability to recruit them by doing side quests then go to the certain floor(s) that character appears at. To get them to show up requires you to open rifts which characters only showing up in certain grade rifts on certain floors, the rifts are grades A, S, and G which require one to three total rifts per chance at possibly getting a certain character to appear. To make the rifts in the first place you have to beat a fight so for the G rank rifts you have to complete Hess battles just to make it. Finally to be able to recruit the character after you finally get them to appear at the proper rift on the proper floor you have to use a special attack as part of your Zenkai attack that is the same grade as the character but also the higher the rank the lower the % chance for them to be recruited. Only part of this is told to you in the game and it will take you potentially hours to finally get that one character you want. Did I mention when I meant variations that there are over 10 Goku's alone to collect? Each a different character in game with different rankings and fusions.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • There will be times where both the player and the characters in-game will be left with shock at some of the insane moments, such as Towa and Mira appearing and powering up Broly to transform into a Great Ape, Baby appearing possessing Hirudegarn's body, or Janemba and Kid Buu somehow getting the idea to fuse.
    • Frieza and Cell trick Pinich into ultra fusing with them into the ultimate ultra fusion, becoming an overly edgey OC like monstrosity that manages to BLOW UP THE STADIUM before Whis rewinds time so Beerus can stop them.
  • That One Boss: Baby Hirudegarn. He he has an auto-counter effect that only goes down before he attacks you, he has pretty high attack power, he fights with a full team of mooks and if you knock one out, they'll just re-spawn.
  • That One Component: Super Saiyan is arguably the most difficult move in the game to obtain. The way to do so is by first completing Story Mode and then battling and knocking out by ring-out certain characters (Skwash or Sesamy) who respectively are part of teams located in corners of 3F and 6F, with the move's drop rate being so low that you're likely to spend hours if not days trying to grind for it. You can try to improve your luck by including one or both of the two aforementioned Saiyan characters who are the only ones capable of using it, but even then, the odds are still very slim.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Because characters besides the CaC cannot fuse with just anyone, this inevitably results in certain fusions that would be interesting to see not being possible outside of Street Pass.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Rather minor, all things considered, but in both the anime and manga, Gowasu did joke to Zamasu about fusing together. Gowasu is not a playable character, so a fusion between the two can't appear.
  • Unexpected Character: Who expected Bulla, female versions of the Ginyu Force or Gine -Goku and Raditz's deceased mother- to be playable? Heck, who expected Arale from Akira Toriyama's own Doctor Slump to be playable and capable of fusing.
