YMMV / Down a Dark Hall

Go To

The novel

  • Fridge Logic: The 2011 rewrite establishes that Kit can't get a mobile phone signal in Blackwood Hall itself. This doesn't explain why she doesn't take the phone with her outside and walk until she does get a signal.
    • Presumably because she's locked in the grounds, the same reason she didn't just walk down to the village and use a payphone in the original.

The film adaptation

  • Misaimed Marketing: The trailer advertises the film as being "From the producers of The Twilight Saga". This is a questionable marketing tactic as this is a horror movie while the Twilight series is romance
  • Nightmare Retardant: The Jump Scares in the trailer are so utterly predictable that they aren't even remotely scary.

  • Tainted by the Preview: When the first trailer was released, it was roundly criticized for its predictable jump scares, as well as advertising the film as being from the producers of The Twilight Saga, a series of films that are in a completely different genre.
