YMMV / DeviantArt

  • Awesome Art: There are plenty of these on here if you know where to look. Check out our deviantART Recommendations to start!
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Since the website's community guidelines aren't as strictly enforced as other places, DeviantArt has became infamous for the large load of fetishistic and Rule 34 content from within its galleries. However, anyone with an account on the site is able to filter these stuff from appearing in their feed. For people that keep away from such things, the website isn't all that bad.
  • Fandom Rivalry: This seems to be the case between the non-fetish communities and the fetish ones because of the former having no interest, even hate fetish content, seeing it as one of the main problems Deviantart faces.
    • The same could be said for between the non-meme communities and the meme communities, even within the latter, because of the fill-in memes, which many people see as being lazy and unfunny.
  • Fan Nickname: After the rebranding in 2014, many users started calling the website "ZeviantArt" since the logo looks like the letter Z.
  • Fetish Retardant: No matter what floats your boat, you're likely to find plenty of grade-A fanservice in that same vein. However, this also means there are going to be quite a few examples that were made to appeal to someone, but who definitely isn't you. It could vary from 'mere' Fan Disservice, causing Bile Fascination, or veer into straight-up Nightmare Fuel.
  • Memetic Mutation: "God I wish that were me". Even DA themselves acknowledged it 10 years later.
    • The LOLWUT pear, also known as The Biting Pear of Salamanca, originated from this site. Because of the meme's popularity, deviantArt hosted an event encouraging users to make parodies of the meme.
  • Misblamed: Because of the site's infamy for hosting fetish pieces, any artwork deemed even remotely fetishistic would be seen as "DeviantArt material" (to put it politely), even though the site hosts way more than such and that many fetish artworks (including some that DA would find too inappropriate for them) can be found on other websites instead of DA.
  • Nausea Fuel: Being an art site, there are many pieces of art on here that would fit someone's definition of Squick.
  • Popular with Furries: DeviantArt has one of the largest Furry communities on the internet outside of dedicated Furry sites.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • There have been many complaints given whenever DeviantArt updated their interface. The site's current design, Eclipse, became infamous for triggering this trope for many of the site's users. As of late 2022, one can't search for more than one word at a time or search by recency instead of popularity unless one is logged in, and the ability to search in favourites was turned off for everyone... that is, until it was brought back.
    • As of 2023, users cannot use a VPN while logged in; if DA detects a user using a VPN while logged in, the user will automatically be logged out without warning, and attempts to log back in will fail unless the user turns off the VPN or uses split tunneling to allow the site to bypass their VPN. Worse is that DA does not even tell users that they must have their VPN off to log into their site, so legitimate users who use a VPN might not even be aware that they have to disable an important piece of their online security just to log into an art site.
