YMMV / Deus Salve O Rei

  • Anti-Climax Boss: The final episode wraps up with a trial for Catarina, the last antagonist standing after Afonso slays Otávio in single combat a couple of episodes before. As such, she goes down without even being able to threaten the good guys again.
  • Awesome Music: The opening intro is a "Scaraborough's Fair" cover by AURORA.
  • Catharsis Factor: Virgilio being punched in the face by Amália's father after crossing the Moral Event Horizon detailed below. Made even better by the fact he once preferred Virgilio over Afonso as suitor for his daughter and he gets away with it.
  • Hollywood Homely: Lucrecia is treated by everyone like an ugly princess, but the actress Tatá Werneck is beautiful, and not even the clothes and makeup of the character hide this fact.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Virgilio's mad jealousy was already pretty bad, but he takes to a whole new level when he buys the land that Amália's family lives just so that he could evict them. Just because she spurned him! And when Afonso tries to pay off the debt with his family's ring, Virgilio hires thieves to steal the ring to prevent the debt from being paid.
    • Brice crosses this line when she mind-wipes Amália and subsequently makes her miscarriage. And since this was done at Virgilio's request, this doubles as yet another moment for him.
    • While she has been a villain, Catarina never really crossed this line until she staged a war between Artena and Montemor specifically to dethrone her father, getting several innocents killed and handling her kingdom at the hands of the invader whom she conspired to.
    • Rodolfo pretty much becomes a villain and loses all sympathy when assisting Catarina in her above scheme, being motivated by pretty much her lust for her. If he didn't cross it then, he definitely does it when upon hearing his brother is marching with an peasant mob to dethrone him, Rodolfo orders his soldiers to slaughter them all - women and children included. This proves to be too much and even his own men desert him, siding with Afonso instead.
  • The Scrappy: Marquis Istvan of Cordona due to being an annoying, bumbling and dense Abhorrent Admirer. He almost seems like a deliberate example, since he is designed to get on Catarina's nerves.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • The main leads are prone to this due to their selfishness. Amália cheats on her fiance (to be fair, he is a controlling jackass but still) with Afonso, a complete stranger who abandons his kingdom when it needs him the most during a time of crisis with water and food shortages and leaving his incompetent little brother as king, all just so he could be with his girlfriend. And despite her initially leaving him due to being afraid of being a thorn in his side as king of Montemor, Amália doesn't feel so bad about him dropping everything to be with her.
    • Rodolfo tries to seduce a servant girl named Tila, including getting her drunk to take her to bed. Did we mentioned that he is married? Luckily, he is stopped when his wife knocks into the door.
