YMMV / Daniel Boone

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: Boone generally trying to conduct peaceful relations with Native American tribes and respecting their way of life is sometimes seen as Politically Correct History, especially since the show came out during the liberal wave of the 1960s. However, the real Boone was fairly respectful toward local tribes and their struggles (something that eighteenth and nineteenth-century historians actually viewed as a character flaw and lied about in their biographies of him), only ever killed either one or three Native Americans across a number of hostile encounters with them, and was deeply troubled later in life over having done so.
  • Moment of Awesome: In the episode "Readin', Ritin', and Revolt", Israel and the other kids want their teacher to teach them more about Indians, but no matter what they try, he refuses. So, the boys decide to launch a non-violent protest. Israel decides on a Boston Tea party reenactment.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: This series only came about because Disney wouldn't allow NBC to do a Davy Crockett series... but Disney owns Daniel Boone anyway, due to the series produced by 20th Century-Fox Television.
  • Spiritual Successor: Fess Parker stars as an icon of the tall tales of the American frontier yet again. It even has an iconic Bragging Theme Tune!
  • Tear Jerker: "Mama Cooper", which features Gabe's mother, a runaway slave who is dying. He gets to be with her in her final days and by the end of the episode, he is seen kneeling at her grave, crying "She was my mother". Daniel consoles him, saying how she died free and was no longer suffering and the last shot is of said grave by the side of the road as both men continue in their travels.
