YMMV / Dangerverse

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Draco Black. Even the author has commented on the unexpected popularity of the character. News that the character was apparently going to die in the not-too-distant future caused much outcry among the fandom.
  • Even Better Sequel: The author's work has improved over time.
  • Growing the Beard: The author was still learning how to tell a story in the early chapters; it improves greatly with time.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In the first book, Narcissa Malfoy poisons herself to prevent her son Draco from having Conflicting Loyalties between her and the Pack, and to prevent her former husband from taking revenge on her for betraying him to the Ministry. Fast-forward to 2021, and Helen McCrory, Narcissa's actress, has died of cancer.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Anne Walsh wasn't the only one to use the "Danger" — "Granger" rhyme...
    • Nor was she the only one to mention that learning about Portkeys could come in handy.
    • Or a hidden swimming pool.
    • Helga Hufflepuff's nickname being "Gaga" might qualify.
  • I Knew It!: Anne has anticipated canon on a couple of occasions.
    • Narcissa's sacrifice for Draco in "Living with Danger" (she hands him over to the Pack, then commits suicide so that he will never have divided loyalties) was posted in late 2004/early 2005, mirroring Narcissa's outright betrayal of the Death Eaters and Voldemort in DH, published in summer 2007.
    • JKR's revelation that goblin-wrought silver absorbs things like basilisk venom, making Gryffindor's sword a Horcrux-killer, did not appear until DH; in the middle of "Living without Danger", posted through the first half of 2005, the Pack's cubs receive goblin-wrought silver daggers, and at the end of the year, in the Chamber of Secrets, Ginny stabs Sangre the basilisk with Harry's dagger, then gets the dagger back to Harry, who uses it to kill Tom Riddle's diary.
    • An exchange in Dealing, with the Pride trying to get Ron to finally say Voldemort's name, anticipates the Taboo (and, arguably, Ron getting it when Harry and Hermione didn't even suspect in Deathly Hallows):
"Voldemort," said Luna without hesitation. "I wouldn't do it anywhere else," she added, "because sometimes the luck spirits hear you call someone you don't want to see and bring that person to you to be mean. But it's safe in here."
"There, see?" Ron pointed to Luna. "There's a reason people don't say his name."
He found himself the object of six disbelieving gazes.
      "Well, it could be true."
    • Remus' pet name for Hermione, who views him as a father, is "kitten". In the film continuity, as a fan discovered and posted on the Facebook page, Hermione's biological father refers to her as "kitten".
  • Nightmare Fuel: The methods the pure-bloods use to perpetuate the family line. A pureblood daughter is either given a list or has the decision on whom to marry made for her; she is then dosed up with a fertility potion and locked in a room with her 'husband.' Oh, and her kind parents make sure to cast silencing charms on the room so they can claim they never heard the screaming.
