    Comics
  • Author's Saving Throw:
    • Following up on some of the cases of The Bus Came Back that occurred in Metal which fell into They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character territory.
    • The Hawkman title manages to correct the infamous Continuity Snarl of the character by having it that he's been reincarnating across time and space, with Katar Hol as one such incarnation rather than a standalone character outright.
    • The Shazam title written by Geoff Johns has been long promised and expected since the beginning of DC Rebirth.
    • The Justice League title returns Martian Manhunter to membership, brings John Stewart in place of Hal Jordan and returns one of the Hawks to the team. That this bears resemblance to the iconic roster of the Justice League cartoon only further endears the choice to readers.
    • Bringing back the Justice League Dark title.
    • No one was complaining when a new Outsiders title was revealed to be in the works.
    • The Wonder Comics imprint definitely got some cheers when it was announced to not only bring back the Young Justice title, with Connor Kent, Bart Allen, Tim Drake, and Cassandra Sandsmark but also to be in mainline continuity. However, because it's Brian Michael Bendis who's writing it, and one of the things he did was returning Connor back into his edgy 90s outfit, plus his usually butchering of characters is proving divisive and rocky as a result.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • DC has made a routine of six issue series focusing on lesser known characters but no one would have seen a Plastic Man title coming, given that he hasn't had a title of his own in years, much less that Gail Simone would be writing it.
    • Nobody saw a new Outsiders title being announced.

    Streaming service
  • Author's Saving Throw: When the service launched, the comics section was a rotating "curated selection", which was criticized for not being like Marvel Unlimited. Some months later, DC's entire back catalog was made available.
  • Broken Base: The service itself has gotten this reaction by some of the community. Some are happy that there's an entire streaming service dedicated to DC Comics so that any of their properties can now get its chance on the comparatively less competitive platform of online streaming (before, only the A-listers like Batman and Superman were allowed to really shine outside team shows), the works won't suffer from the Executive Meddling that killed their past shows, held back creativity, or prevented them from even starting, and there will be a place where comics can be read legally online. On the other hand, there are others that aren't happy that there is going to be yet another streaming service that's making entertainment increasingly expensive when the draw was that streaming was supposed to be cheaper than basic cable, and wished they partnered with Netflix to create original content like Marvel didnote  as opposed to introducing a competing product that will be the only legal way to watch shows like Young Justice: Outsiders and Titans (2018). The restructuring of WarnerMedia in 2020 favored the latter customer opinion about there being too many streaming services, by transferring DC Universe's content on HBO Max and relegating the soon-to-be-defunct streaming platform to digital comics while ensuring high production value DC Comics-based series will be produced and streamed, without having to partner with Netflix.
  • Just Here for Godzilla:
    • Quite a few are getting the service because this is the platform the long-awaited Young Justice: Outsiders is going to be aired on. Reportedly, the previous seasons of Young Justice are even the most viewed media on the service as of December 2018.
    • Even apart from the shows, the fact that membership gets you access to the entire library of DC comics at no extra charge is a huge incentive even for people questioning how much another streaming subscription is worth.
  • Protection from Editors: The main reason the service came to life was because DC, who has had a history of being Screwed by the Network from numerous channels for many years, decided to cut out the middleman entirely and make shows and movies where the only restrictions in place are the ones they set on themselves made directly for their audience. An adult Harley Quinn series or a Truer to the Text Swamp Thing series may not have even been possible on network TV, showing they have every intent to fully utilize it.
    • Unfortunately, it wasn't enought to keep Swamp Thing from getting cancelled after its premiere.
    • DC Universe was seen in an increasingly negative light by AT&T / WarnerMedia execs with the arrival of HBO Max in the looming "streaming war" against Netflix and Disney+. The coup de grâce was the massive layoffs that happened during the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic and the retooling of the streaming service into a digital comics-only service. DC Universe's signature shows lived on a bit longer on HBO Max until mass cancellations happened to make way for James Gunn's DCU.
  • Unexpected Character: Though a few had requested it, no one actually thought they'd make a Swamp Thing series for the service. Same for Doom Patrol and Stargirl.
