  • Awesome Music: "Somewhere I Belong" performed by the late Teddy Pendergrass is an amazingly deep and powerful ballad and given its use at the ending of the movie? It's no wonder why.
  • Cult Classic: Beloved to anybody who grew up with it some way or another considers it one of the most underrated movies of the '80s.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The ending. To the NTH DEGREE. Once revived by Dr. Lamb, Daryl runs home and reuniting with Turtle, the two playfully shove each other. The Richardsons and Foxes all exit the house, Daryl runs into Joyce's arms and hugs her. Everyone then pretty much passes him around from there as the credits start rolling: Andy gets him next, then Howie, then Elaine, then Sherie Lee—with Turtle joining in and then he goes back to the Richardsons. Cue the Freeze Frame of the two families as "Somewhere I Belong" is playing throughout the whole scene. Hard not to be hit with a brick full of feels while watching it.
  • Older Than They Think: Beat A.I.: Artificial Intelligence to the punch by over ten years in having a protagonist who is a robot child struggling with his identity as a human.
  • Strawman Has a Point: The military, though going way too far in wanting Daryl terminated, is not entirely wrong in being wary of him. See the Emergent Human entry - when even the people who programmed him have no idea where his emerging personality and emotional responses are coming from, it's definitely time to be careful.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: The movie received a PG rating - although it was released after the PG-13 rating was introduced, and does have some language (including a mention of rape!) that would never get past the censors with just a PG rating in later years, for example.
