YMMV tropes for Cyborg Davis

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Why did Yami Ninji film TK and Kari having sex and show it to Davis? Did he really just want to hurt him with this footage, or did he keep it around for more "personal" reasons?
  • Ass Pull: In the final chapter, Izzy apparently built Davis a new body, but he can't remember anything from his previous life. It's not nearly as robotic as it was before, meaning the Hollywood Cyborg look was completely pointless. This only happened so that Mykan could rip off "Things Change" just so he could punish Kari even further for not hooking up with Davis.
  • Badass Decay: Gatomon suffers from this as soon as Yami Ninji's men capture her, Kari, TK, and Patamon. She's captured without a fight, and locked in a cage made of "super-titanium metal". Even though Chrome Digizoid would have been a better material to use to excuse her being locked up with the rest.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: When Yami Ninji films TK and Kari doing it. It comes out of nowhere, is utterly ludicrous, and is never brought up again aside from the fact that Davis gets even more tormented from it.
  • Canon Defilement: In canon, years after MaloMyotismon was defeated, everyone on Earth became DigiDestined. In this fic, however, Patamon states that Only the Pure of Heart can become DigiDestined. Even that in-fic rule gets defiled in the same chapter it's brought up, as Yami Ninji is partner to a Guardromon. This gets a Hand Wave right away by having him say "like all rules, they were made to be broken”, which sums up a good portion of Mykan's writing. Additionally, the fic states that DigiDestined control their Digimon rather than befriend them.
  • Designated Hero: While there's no doubt that Davis is, by definition, a "hero", he's still a major Jerkass for a bulk of the story. Justified in-story in that he forgot what love is, and only seems to remember jealousy. By the time he reverts to his old, heroic self, the whole "get the girl or die" nature of the fic hits him hard.
  • Funny Moments: Unintentional, but the fic itself points out its own flaw in the second chapter: "He (TK) couldn't have helped it if Davis wanted to act all emotional and drink himself too far." It's like the fic itself is aware of its own issues, yet keeps on going (which, knowing who this is, isn't an impossibility).
  • Moment of Awesome: At least Yolei still has a knack for slapping people back to their senses; and when the target is Davis for suggesting that they should have just let him die in the accident, it begins to feel a little more satisfying than usual.
  • Moral Event Horizon: When Yami Ninji is revealed to have recorded Kari and TK having sex and shows it to Davis to try and kill him.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Tai and Jun are together with no prior development.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The noodle business isn't exactly the first thing you think of when you talk about Digimon. Or cyborgs, for that matter.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Sure, Kari and TK were a bit over their heads with their relationship, but the punishment ended up far more severe than the deed. It'd be near impossible for them to get jobs, they end up divorced, and now they have to live the rest of their lives thinking that they were partially responsible for what happened. Not to mention, they were filmed having sex without their permission.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Davis may be unable to feel love due to the roboticization, but he doesn't even show any remorse for snapping at his friends until later.
  • Wangst: Being unable to feel love because of your new robotic body is understandable. Lashing out at others because of your own jealousy isn't, especially if you're not going to actually apologize for it.
    • Before that, even, we see that Davis never got over Kari. And his jealousy towards her and TK is pretty much this way throughout the entire story. Expect lots of uncharacteristic outbursts.
  • The Woobie: The crap that the fic puts TK and Kari through is just beyond sickening. They're beat up and captured along with their Digimon, Forced to Watch as their intimate moments in bed are recorded for Davis to bear witness to, everyone starts assuming that they're at least partially responsible for Davis' death, with several people giving them the evil eye and some even denying them admittance, and Kari ends up bringing herself to divorce TK because she can't cope with the death. And just to twist the knife even further, shortly after she does, a memoryless Davis appears, just to wind up denying Kari any sort of happy ending. Once again, all because they were married.
