YMMV / Curious George (2006)

Go To

  • Adorkable: Ted is this thanks to his clumsy behavior, sweet personality, and his relationship with Maggie and George
  • Awesome Art: The first film has an absolutely gorgeous, soothing watercolor look to it.
  • Awesome Music: The original Curious George film has an exceptional soundtrack by Jack Johnson that at one point was #1 on the Billboard 200 and is arguably better-remembered than the film itself. A couple of the most notable tracks are the dreamy, mellow "Upside Down" and the catchy "People Watching."
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: A lot of people have taken a liking to Maggie due to her attractive/adorable appearance and her comedic chemistry with Ted.
  • Periphery Demographic: The first film has a following amongst animation buffs for being one of the few traditionally animated American films of the mid-to-late 2000s.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Junior is this, since it's obvious that Mr. Bloomsberry favors Ted over his own son.
  • Older Than They Think: The Man in the Yellow Hat's real name 'Ted' actually originated in the 1946 book 'See The Circus'.
  • Sequelitis: The first movie was decent at the box office. While the first sequel was considered to be okay, many fans of the movie series consider the third installment to be where the series started to go downhill, with its downgraded animation and broken green aesop.
  • Strawman Has a Point: In Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey! (2010), The main antagonist, Danno Wolfe, claims that George is a troublesome monkey, and Ted is irresponsible with taking care of him. While Danno's way of punishing George is a little extreme, he's definitely right. As it's shown that Ted is often stressed out due to having to deal with George's antics and the aftermaths, and George doesn't seem to care about who he affects and the consequences (Though justified since he's a monkey and doesn't know better.). In fact, the whole entire plot of the second movie started because Ted wasn't watching George and left him to go around by himself when George is a monkey who, intentionally or not, causes trouble nearly everywhere he goes. It also doesn't help that whenever Ted does punish George, he instantly gives into George's hurt feelings and takes back his word.
