• Darker and Edgier: Ever since the new writer, the Doomkitten, was brought on board, the series has definitely taken a turn for the angstier.
• Fandom Nod:
  • Steven asks Blue Pearl if she was made in a giant clam like Earth pearls; a common fandom theory on how Pearls are made. Blue Pearl is mortified by the question and denies it.
  • Later in the same chapter, Blue briefly mistakes Onion for Yellow Diamond (a previous joke in the fandom before Yellow's reveal).
• Hilarious in Hindsight: canon Steven being the son of a Diamond.
• Take That!: A minor one for Teen Titans Go!, when Steven turns on Cartoon Network to see what's on, he hears Teen Titans Go!'s infamous catchphrase "Your New Favorite Show" and goes 'nope'.
• The Woobie: Aside from all the people in canon, Blue Pearl is added as well – even after more than a decade, she’s still having trouble forgetting Blue Diamond, and due to her belief in Homeworld’s Fantastic Caste System, thinks of herself as “defective” in Chapter 7 for having feelings.
  • Pearl isn't doing much better, as Rose ends the relationship Pearl spent a thousand years fighting for because of how badly it effects her mentally.
