• Alternate Character Interpretation: Given that Mr. Zwilling seems to have Noah's complete trust and confidence in Chupacabra, is off-screen Heel–Face Turn in Mutation play-acting, or, like Violet, is he a genuinely good person who only had to act loyal before to stay in the evil Noah's good graces and avoid being shunted away and mistreated as a failure.
• Anti-Climax Boss: The series comes to a rushed end in Mutation. The Reveal only takes place towards the very end of that novel, and the ending is suddenly cut off and then the resolution is told through a brief letter from Grace. Justified since Noah is a Non-Action Big Bad, and is killed by his own mutation.
• Contested Sequel: Some fans praise Mutation as a twisty and action-packed finale that covers every base. Others consider it a needlessly violent book that kills off or underuses great characters on both sides, such as Mitch and Raul, rushes plot developments, has various Ass Pull revelations, and gives too much focus to returning characters and subplots from Jaguar and Sasquatch while not duplicating the popular tones of those books.
• Continuity Lockout: Averted, each sequel features a "meet the cast" page, and a recap of the series so far. However, the opening chapters will still stop every two lines to remind you of who's what or what happened.
