- Contested Sequel: Contagion. Those who prefer it cite its greater polish and having an actual storyline, those who don't lament the downplaying of the cyperbunk elements and in that streamlining the mechanics, it lost much of what the original game unique and replayable.
- Scrappy Mechanic: The upgrade system in the first game. Any upgrade token you pick up is immediatly applied to whatever weapon you're carrying, which makes it extremely easy to upgrade a weapon you don't want and tediously require you to switch to whatever weapon you want upgraded any time you pick up a token. This was fixed in Contagion.
