YMMV / Cherry 2000

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Sam likes robot women, and his "ex girlfriend" doesn't seem much more intelligent than Cherry. Is Ginger a robot? Or perhaps Lester had broken her psychologically making her more submissive. Or, due to how Ginger and Sam's relationship ended, Sam fell in love with Cherry because she was less complicated than whatever complicated woman Ginger used to be prior to heading out to Sky Ranch.
  • Questionable Casting: Melanie Griffith as a tough-as-nails bounty hunter is this for some, it's certainly a case of Playing Against Type.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Laurence Fishburne is a lawyer in the Glu Glu Club.
    • Robert Z'Dar as Chet, the mook guard who gets killed by E's throwing knife. Z'Dar has achieved more of a cult following for being a recognizable character actor since the film's release. The fact that he only has a single line and dies before the third act is a bit of a surprise to people who recognize him nowadays.
  • So Okay, It's Average: When it was released on home video, the British magazine Select declared "Pleasant, but would you want to own it?"
  • Spiritual Successor: To Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. In that film, Molly Ringwald plays a young woman with short red hair who acts as a guide through a desert post-apocalyptic wasteland for a tough mercenary and ultimately replaces his lost Robot Girl as a companion. In this film, Melanie Griffith is a tough mercenary with short red hair who acts as a guide through a desert post-apocalyptic wasteland for a guy and ultimately replaces his restored Robot Girl as a companion.
