YMMV / Cat-Ra

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor:
    • Considering what Catra did in canon, reading about her counterpart going through the same difficulties and hardships she had put Adora through is cathartic to read about.
    • Early on, Glimmer admits her mom is right about her being reckless. Considering what a brat she was in the show, hearing her admit it is enjoyable to read about.
      • Later on at the Princess Prom, Catra more or less calls her a privileged brat who doesn't know how good she has it. She's not far off from what many feel about Glimmer.
  • Complete Monster: The parasitic entity calling itself "Aroda" searches for hosts to manipulate, corrupt to evil, and, if there is no other source of power, feed on. Aroda does this to Shadow Weaver and attempts to convince her to sacrifice a baby Adora in a ritual. When the sorceress refuses, Aroda horribly deforms her. Upon being transferred inside Adora, Aroda manipulates the girl and feeds on her body while trying to convince her to kill others, including her former friends Catra and Entrapta. Aroda persuades Adora to ignore Entrapta's warning that Hordak's portal would destroy all existence and activate it, so Aroda could acquire great power. Aroda psychologically torments and tries to kill Catra to stop her from saving reality and, upon defeat, attempts to persuade her to become its new host, abandoning Adora.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Each season is written without the author having seen any further ahead, leading to some big misjudgments about where the show was going... or being quite prescient.
    • Catra Apologizes a Lot whenever she talks to Adora, when her Heel–Face Turn on the show ended up being the first time she's ever done so in her life to anyone.
    • Spinarella and Netossa are repeatedly described as "friends" early on, when canonically they're married. However, given Bow's first interaction with them had him basically admitting that he didn't know anything about them, it's still on point.
    • The physical effects of Adora's shadow powers are uncannily like Horde Prime's possession.
    • While acting like a cat from the First Ones' virus, Catra licks Glimmer's face. Later in the actual show, she licked Glimmer's arm.
    • Catra's meeting Glimmer and Bow in the fanfic plays out similarly to when they captured her in "Ties That Bind". Both also have a scene where Bow and Glimmer are talking about the later running out of power and Catra overhearing them.
    • In "Reunion", while pretending to be Bow's girlfriend, Catra further embellishes the story and says that Glimmer had a crush on him, too. Season 5 would confirm that Glimmer does have romantic feelings for Bow.
    • Monokub himself points out that the false reality at the end of Season 3 bears quite a resemblance to his version of what happens in Catra's mind during "System Failure": waking up with no initial memory but quickly thinking the new reality is real, things disappearing with no one else noticing, and finally having to run from a destructive white force obliterating all in its path.
    • Catra states that she received her name purely based on her appearance. Nate Stevenson would later reveal in a stream that this was also the case in canon, with Adora naming her when they first met.
    • Catra's first heroic act in the fanfiction was saving a kid from a fire. Later in the series, Catra would jump into fire to save Adora.
  • Shocking Moments: The Reveal at the end of "Flutterina" that the titular character is actually a real person and that Double Trouble has infiltrated the rebellion by impersonating Bow instead.
