YMMV / Carousel of Progress

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: The final act makes references to products that have since gone the way of the dodo bird, such as carphones and laserdiscs. Subverted with virtual reality headsets, which were a fad for a time until they became relevant again in The New '10s, and voice-activated technology, which is nowadays affiliated with virtual assistants and the Internet of Things.
  • Audience-Coloring Adaptation: Despite its spotless record during its years, Carousel of Progress has the misfortune of occasionally being mistaken for the ride that claimed the life of eighteen-year-old cast member Deborah Gail Stone. The ride in question was actually America Sings (the Carousel's successor in Disneyland). It doesn't help that both rides had a rotating theatre layout (the only difference being the direction in which they spun), which was considered a key factor in Stone's death.
  • Awesome Music: The beloved Sherman Brothers song "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" was made for this attraction. "The Best Time of Your Life", the GE-mandated temporary replacement, is also a decent tune, although it's not as popular as the former.
  • Spiritual Successor: Epcot's Horizons was considered this to the Carousel, featuring a similar premise but set in the near future. The theme song even played at one point.
