- Nightmare Fuel: Yes, really. If you look to the right of the road on the Mojave Desert track in the N64 port, you can see a white billboard, partially hidden by an oil drill, with the message:
- SoMETIMES...God TAkES MOMMIESANd PuPPIES AWAY...ANd SoMETIMES...JuST SoMETIMES...I do
- This was ultimately revealed to be a placeholder texture mistakenly not changed before release.
- Porting Disaster: As typical for the time, the N64 version pales in comparison to the arcade:
- There are no pedestrians or animals to run over.
- The bikini babe at the start and end of each race is removed.
- The graphics are inferior, with less detail in the environments.
- There are fewer music tracks than there are levels.
- The three raceways from the arcade are not present (although the N64 version contains a few tracks that the arcade version lacks).
- There are less voice bytes from the announcer.
- No full motion video intro sequence, due to the N64 hardware limitations.
- Less environmental sound effects.
- The overall gameplay is slower compared to the arcade version, with lower top speeds and poorer controls.
- Signature Scene: The Mojave Desert billboard with the creepy message in the N64 port. It brought a lot of new attention to the game when screenshots of it were shared on Reddit.
- Alternatively, for those who grew up with this game, the finale of the Santa Cruz track where you race on the tracks of the Giant Dipper roller coaster.
