YMMV / CZW

Go To

  • Ending Fatigue: Among those who liked the first decade of CZW, seemingly unending angles and ass pulls that ultimately changed little in the long run were the most consistent complaints, as the results of matches they would otherwise have enjoyed seemed undermined by the booking.
  • Fandom Rivalry
    • With Ring Of Honor and IWA Mid-South obviously, particularly on the subject of ECW's successor. Both much more friendly that with XPW though. It's starts with the fact that while CZW imitated ECW, XPW actively opposed ECW, then tried to buy out its roster and territory, where CZW was also moving into when ECW went under. XPW's fans will remind people of CZW's backyard origins while CZW's will counter that "their" company moved passed that while XPW never put its pornographic origins behind it and arguments just get nastier from there.
    • Seemingly invoked when CZW acquired WSU and started doing double features as Pro Wrestling Syndicate ran shows directly to counter the two of them with it's then new BLOW brand, perhaps to capitalize on the disenfranchisement WSU's time with Beyond had left.(It didn't work at first. Fate conspired to make almost everything go wrong with the BLOW shows that could but the "brand" resurfaced in 2016. Then the entire PWS brand collapsed not due to the quality of its shows but the state of its ownership)
    • FMW fans had already been murmuring against CZW since its inception but it went both ways after the supposedly retiring Atsushi Onita himself came back to the US to work with CZW and decried the promotion and it's explosives as "cheap". The fans who went were pleased to see Onita live all the same.
    • Initially had a friendly fandom with Game Changer Wrestling, though after one of the bookers ran an invasion angle from GCW's Nick Gage and Brett Lauredale without asking Hyde, things turned sour, including wrestlers that worked both companies having to pick a side too.
  • Fan Nickname: "Oink" for fans of Irish Airborne who aren't fans of Ohio Is For Killers.
  • Friendly Fandoms: Besides cultivating one with Chikara, Dragon Gate USA and EVOLVE crowds tend to have high crossover with CZW's.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Besides bringing garbage wrestling to new venues in Canada, Sick Nick Mondo got invitations to come to Italy and train wrestlers while Mad Man Pondo became beloved in Japan.
  • Memetic Mutation: The infamous John Zandig promo, particularly, "JEEZUS!" being used on Botchamania to introduce CZW-based montages.
  • Never Live It Down
    • Nick Mondo getting hit in the stomach with an electric weed whacker.
      • Mondo and Zandig for the roof bump, to the point where people called Joey Janela an idiot for willingly recreating it years later.
    • While still a garbage fed that's not the foremost place to go for say, technical wrestling, CZW has grown to the point garbage is no longer a crutch so much as a preference, with cards usually offering a decent variety in bouts. Still, CZW was not born in a vacuum. It not only has its own first impression to overcome but association with several dubious ECW cash ins that opened around the same time.
    • The infamous Zandig promo, which is a lot of people's entry point into the company via Botchamania.
  • Replacement Scrappy: To its credit, CZW would address its flaws through working relationships with companies of other styles, angles with companies known for strong booking, partnerships with companies that had strong women's divisions, a school for teaching traditional fundamentals, events such as the best of the best tournament and even going on the road and overseas but although these things made the company less critically derided from an objective standpoint, it didn't produce one that looked like ECW.
